DH was ill a few weeks ago with what we thought was a bad UTI. After a lot of urging, he finally went to see the doc the week before Christmas. Long story short, it seems he has an enlarged prostate, not an infection, and GP organised a blood test which was taken on the friday before Christmas. DH was told to ring today for the results.

However, yesterday morning before 9.00am, the surgery phoned and arranged for the GP to call DH, which he did late morning. He said the results were back and slightly raised, but "nothing to worry about", and he was going to refer DH to the urology dept at the local hospital for further examinations/tests "just to be on the safe side". He said the appointment should come through in a couple of weeks.

That was late morning yesterday, the appointment letter arrived in this morning's post and it's on Tuesday morning next week (Monday is a bank holiday!), which all seems either super efficient, or that they're in a hurry.

Someone please come over and give me a sharp kick up the rear and tell me to stop worrying about this. They're just being efficient, right ....???

Hi MrsExpo
My DH was diagnosed with advanced PC out of the blue. He had no symptoms but he had widespread to bones etc and his psa was in the thousands !
It sounds like the Drs are doing all the right things with your DH.
IF he does have PC the biopsy will give a 'Gleason' score which basically describes how aggressive the cancer is.
Even if he has it there is a very good chance that the cancer is still contained in the prostate. If that's the case then there is a really good chance of cure.
If it has spread then there are many more treatments available than there used to be but hopefully that's something you won't need to even think about.
I would second giving the nurses at Prostate Cancer Uk a call. They are brilliant with info about all aspects of prospect health.

Prostate health - not prospect health !

Hello everyone ... jus thought i'd revive this thread as some of you were kind enough to respond before. DH had his follow up appointment today and he's got an aggressive prostate cancer - level 8 on the scale of awfulness - which is inoperable. They are starting him on treatment today, referring him for more tests and an MRI and he will be undergoing a 7 week course of radiotherapy in about three - four months time.

At the moment I'm in a state of shock, but I'm sure it will all sink in at some point. He seems pretty OK about it at the moment.

Thank you again for your kind thoughts before ... any advice at this stage would be much appreciated. x

I'm sorry MrsExpo and MrExpo. In terms of advice, I'd say to you to remember to also look after yourself, and if there are offers of help - take them - and also just ditch what doesn't need to be done, to take some of the load off yourself. It'll take time for this to sink in, and I certainly found day one I was numb with shock and on day two the tears came (my Mum has cancer). There will be folk on here who can help more. I think find someone to talk to, if that helps as well, as you may find you wish to offload. One day at a time.....

PastaOfMuppets · 25/01/2018 12:33

@Expo I am so sorry, and hope the doctors do everything and your DH is going ok ... my sympathies.

Spam88 · 25/01/2018 12:59

Oh OP, I'm so sorry to hear that.

gobbin · 25/01/2018 14:19

Sorry to hear this ☹️

Footle · 25/01/2018 15:13

What sort of age is he? I'm so sorry, and wishing you both strength.

MrsExpo · 25/01/2018 17:00

@Footle he’s 71 and otherwise in pretty good health. In fact he’s pretty symptom free all round which makes today’s news even more bewildering. .... he’s now starting to get obsessed with the effects the hormone treatment will have on him. As someone has said, one day at a time.

twoseven · 25/01/2018 19:42

Oh Mrs Expo
So sorry you are going through this Sad Flowers

HappyHedgehog247 · 25/01/2018 19:45

Sorry to hear your bad news. It's always a shock at first, I think, even if the scans and tests have started to prepare you. It sounds like they are starting treatment quickly which is good. Thinking of you. I think it's as hard to be the carer as to be the one suffering in some ways.

Nannyplumssillyoldelf · 25/01/2018 19:52

I'm so sorry to hear this.

sleepyhoglet · 16/10/2021 15:05

I know this is an old thread but I really need to make contact with the OP @MrsExpo
I am in a similar position and want to know how things worked out for you. My DH has a psa test of 14.4 but nothing further has been done. I have a young child and am pregnant and so worried. He is only mid 40s.
