varicose veins in vagina!! anyone had this embarassing problem? advice desperately wanted

while pregnant with my ds who is 11 weeks i developed horrible bulges inside my vagina - not visible from the outside although when standing 'downthere' did kind of 'hang'. I was not able to have sex as it was ultra sensitive and a bit sore. Since I had my ds they have gone down quite a bit but I am still left with lots of bulges inside and it just looks so STRANGE! I hate this I tried having sex a few weeks ago but was still sore and desperately want to start having sex again but I'm to scared to now - I needed some reassurance so went to my DR today and he is not the easiest person - made me feel like an idiot for going and said there was nothing wrong and - I told him I was a bit sore and he said 'yes it does look a red on the edge there' but said nothing more on the matter (?)
I am so worried they will not disapear - I know it takes time to recover from pregnancy but I would like to hear from anyone who has experienced this and let me know if/when they go and if they don't go can anything be done. Thanks

you poor bugger

I had vulval varicose veins when pregnant with dd2 and they were agony and i worried that they would be there to stay but they did go.
Get a second opinion, maybe a female doctor would be more understanding.

pfnomore - hope you don't mind me asking were they on the outside or inside? how long until they went? thanks

Your GP sounds like a twat. Is there a female GP at the same practice you could see instead? Poor you.

iota · 23/04/2007 22:42

I had them too - inside - they are long gone - ds2 is now 5

msd2 · 23/04/2007 22:43

there is only one DR where I live as small town - have thought about changing practice though and go to next town!

I had this problem, but luckily it did clear up. I don't think it took as long as 11 weeks though. I presume you can get the same treatment as you can for varicose veins on your legs.

liquidclocks · 23/04/2007 22:46

11 weeks after childbirth it is COMPLETELY normal to feel sore!

Agree you could see your GP but try not to worry too much. Your body will take time to heal - go easy on it.

Beauregard · 23/04/2007 22:47

Most of mine were external but i had a couple near the 'entrance' iykwim.
I had a lot on the outside ,my flaps looked like bloody bunches of grapes.
They did go fairly quickly from what i remember, def before 11 weeks.
Seek a second opinion.

msd2 · 23/04/2007 22:49

this is all a bit of a relief! it's so hard to talk about this anyone and the few i've mentioned it to have had no experience of this

MY friend had this. They'll probably go on their own; I'd maybe get some supportive pants from M&S for now - she said they were a great help (not sexy, for sure, but a great help!). Unfortunately hers didn't go (18m later) and she's just had an op on them, but if it's any reassurance there's only one NHS consultant in the whole country that specialises in this so that shows it's relatively rare to last as long as hers have.

msd2 · 23/04/2007 22:58

moomin - don't suppose you know what the operation involves? are they removed or injected like with legs or something completely different? thanks

Moomin · 25/04/2007 19:08

think she had series of injections to expand the blood vessel, like when you have the leg ones, yes. am seeing her friday, will get the proper details and post back. But i'd see a (nicer/better) gp yourself anyway and try not to get too worried about what my friend went through. Chances are you won't need anything like the same treatment

Overrun · 25/04/2007 19:35

I developed some with the dts, and they went fairly quickly, but can't remember if before 11 weeks.
Sex was painful for quite a while after, and as I had a c-section, maybe this is why. The good news is, that I am fine now, and its really likely that you will be too

DrMarthaMcMoo · 25/04/2007 19:37

I had them too when I was pregnant with ds2 - they were bloody painful. But they went pretty quickly after the birth and I haven't had any problems since. Is there a female GP at your practice you can see?

foxybrown · 25/04/2007 19:40

yes, 1st and 4th pg. Went immediately after giving birth to no 1 (hoping they go immediately when I get no 4 out). Someone I know has suggested that you can probably use haemmeroid (sp?) cream on them.
