Strep throat / leg pain

Ok so bare with me...

Back in October I woke up with a weepy eye, so popped along to the chemist and they gave me some optrex drops. They didn't seem to do anything and two days later my entire face was swollen and I was in a lot of pain, so off the the GP I went (I had no other symptoms)

Gp said I'd had an allergic reaction and prescribed something else (can't remember the name) BUT by the time I'd got home I'd started to feel bad with flu like symptoms. By the next morning I was really really feeling awful and my throat was swollen so off to the walk in centre I went , but I was told it was only flu and to rest.

By that night I was in agony with stabbing pains in my thighs, I can't begin to describe the pain but It was so bad I was crying and shouting out. At 3.30am I couldn't take it anymore so called 111 who sent an ambulance out (I was mortified) but they suspected I had sepsis.

Once I'd been admitted doctors were a bit confused but said I had strep throat, and sepsis and that the strep had caused the eye infection. I was kept in for four days on IV antibiotics and then discharged with 10 more days worth (amoxicillin & metronidazole)

If you are still reading well done Grin anyway, all fine after 10 days but I was still knackered for weeks after.

So today, I've woke up with the same awful feeling of flu and tonight the stabbing pain has come back I'm so worried things will escalate quickly again (I'm a single mum to a special needs daughter, I cannot be ill Shock)

So basically my question is, has anyone else had this? What on earth causes the pain in my thighs? Obviously with flu you get achy all over but this is nothing compared!

If anyone has any answers, I'm all ears 😆

I don't know but my daughter also had strep throat infection recently and very jerky/restless legs with pains. It went away as soon as started the antibiotics.

Sepsis is much more serious though - you should call docs again.

20 years ago I had a similar experience.
Felt a bit off - i had bern in anti biotics a couoke of weeks before for a throat infection. Had recovered but felt drained soldiered on through the week. Woke Saturday morning to v swollen face. 2 hours later all of me was selling up. Freakiest point was pulling jeans down to go for a pre and not being able to pull them up 2 minutes later due to swelling. Ambulance was called and in hospital I was given more anti biotics, steroids eye and kept in. They suspected a reaction to strep throat. I was v ill with breathing problems that night and Dr called to the ward to administer more steroids and oxygen. Awoke next morning and tried to get out of my hospital bed to go to the loo and my legs ached like helk. Real shabby pains as I tried to stand up. I collapsed and was horrified that I could not walk. Anyway the short version is after a week in hospital and lots of steroids the pains eased (slower than swelling) and I could walk again. I was told it was a reactive form of arthritis. Apparently it can all be linked to the strep infection. I've had a milder version of it since - 5 or so years ago but thats it.

Maybe you are having/have had a similar reaction.
