i am being sedated and i am assuming they will numb my gums as well. Just concerned cos i suffer panic attacks as well (thats why i'm being sedated) and i know i will get there and absolutley fall apart and sob.

wurly wurly, take it from me, ( and i dont say this lightly coz a little under 12 months ago i used to feel sick just going past a dentist and i would of literally chopped off my arm to avoid going)but the dentist is really nothing to be bothered bout these days,I PROMISE. after having a road accident when i was 12 and having my front teeth knocked out, i developed a HUGE fear of the dentist, anyway i went to this lady who gave me caps that where wrong colour and my gums at the front got inected with abcesses, i battled them alone for 6 years untill the pain got to bad and my teeth looked like nothing on this earth, in the end i summoned thecourage, walked into thedentist, burst into tears luckily my dentist is FAB (and very handsome ) anyway i had sooooo much work done including having disenfectnant squirted up my gums and held in with cotton wool, 4 root fillings, normal fillings etc, then i had zoom whitening done on the bottoms and then had new VERY white caps on the front and i can honestly swear to u i used to look forward to going in the end, and it didnt hurt a bit, dentistry really has come along way these days. good luck and dont worry, u will be fine.

loopy i dont think i'm actually scared of the dentist tho, had braces for years and that never worried me at all. Think it has just rubbed off from my mum cos she is terrified. Think i'm more worried of the reaction that i have just being there then actually having the work done IYKWIM i'm the same with going to hospital.

Wurly - don't take painkillers before hand. They told me this when I asked once. It makes your blood thinner so that the anaesthetic doesn't work so well, or something like that - good reason anyway, whatever it was!
It's really best to rely on the anaesthetic. it's usually brilliant, in several years of heavy dental work, I've only ever felt pain once through it wearing off/not being quite kicked in when they started. That's about 0.000001% of times to put it in perspective.
If they know you're scared they'll be even more careful with you
Plenty of time for painkillers afterwards if you need them, but you might well not. Probably just a bit achy and feel a bit bruised.
Would hold your hand gladly if I could! Wish they would sedate me sometimes, I get panicky too but have to ride it as it was that or false teeth and lots more pain.
Go with the flow and try to remember it's something they do every day.

FA i asked to refered to a clinic that would sedate me as i am very nervous its costing me £120 just for the sedation but i do think its money well spent

Sounds like it is worth every penny. Hope it goes fine and you feel better after - abscesses are horrible, are you taking anything for the pain ATM? Like someone else said, you can alternate Ibu and Para, every 3 hours have one or the other - not more than 4 doses of either in 24hrs.
I know they don't always knock the pain out entirely but takes the edge off - try hot water bottle by face as well.

am taking plenty of painkillers ATM and have been buying box of ibuprofen everytime i've been to morrisons recently so that i will have plenty
