Hi,
I'm in America visiting family. I'm having heaving vaginal bleeding with large clots (ranging from the length and width of 2 fingers to one that was the size of my palm). The clots are occurring every time I need to change my tampon which is hourly.
The blood is bright red. I'm having some cramping and feeling very tired and sometimes lightheaded.

This has been going on for about three weeks since my last period. My periods are normally heavy, but shortish and regular. I'm not on any contraception and my husband has had the snip so not pregnant.

I'm miserable and struggling to do anything as I can't be far from toilets.

Does this sound like.something serious and should I go to urgent care here or do you think I can wait until I'm home on the 2nd?

It's impossible to say. Personally I would get it checked. It could be anything but fibroids popped into my mind. I am in no way qualified to comment on what it might be but remember friend bleeding between periods and it was fibroids. Could you not get a medical appointment and have travel insurance cover it?

Sallycinnamum · 26/12/2017 13:59

If it was me I'd be seeking medical help. I'm sure there was a thread recently where a poster had similar bleeding and it was a really nasty infection that turned to sepsis. Please get help just in case.

Wolfiefan · 26/12/2017 13:59

I wouldn't want to fly home without getting it checked. Hope you're ok.

RatRolyPoly · 26/12/2017 14:02

That's an awful lot of blood to lose, no wonder you're feeling lightheaded! There's only so much blood you can lose before "lightheaded" becomes "unconscious"... I wouldn't wait another week.

INeedNewShoes · 26/12/2017 14:07

I think you need seek medical attention!

MadCap · 26/12/2017 14:07

Thanks. We do have travel insurance that covers medical care. I think I will go and get it checked. It just comes in these horrible gushes.

Please get this checked there was a poster on here a few years back posting a very similar history - she went to OOH and was admitted immediately and told us that they said she would have died.

The advice is if you flood a pad in an yourself medical advice. I hope you feel better soon x

Floralnomad · 26/12/2017 14:11

The only thing I would say is did you have the problem before you left for your visit , if so will your insurance cover it ? Either way it sounds like you need attention .

Lunde · 26/12/2017 14:18

How old are you?

I had the same symptoms at 42 and it turned out to be the peri-menopause

MadCap · 26/12/2017 14:18

We've been here a week a week and a half already so no reason to be overly concerned about anything before we left.

? Xmas Confused

MadCap · 26/12/2017 14:24

I just thought it was a longish period. I had no idea that it would keep going. Confused

I had similar and it was fibroids, best to get it checked though, I ended up dangerously anaemic because I didn't go to the gp.

ItMadeMyEyesWater · 26/12/2017 14:31

Before a hysterectomy my periods were exactly as you describe, with light headedness, I really thought I was going to pass out the one day. I saw a specialist, who diagnosed fibroids, he also said, if I passed a lot of clots and blood to the point where I felt I was going to pass out I should go straight to A&E. I am so sorry you are so such a long way from home, it must be absolutely dreadful for you. I hope you get it sorted soon. [Flowers]

ItMadeMyEyesWater · 26/12/2017 14:33

*Sorry I meant to send you flowers.

Sparklebelle1024 · 26/12/2017 23:33

Get checked, and stop using tampons incase it is an infection!

BusterGonad · 29/12/2017 16:37

How are things?

MadCap · 29/12/2017 19:51

Thanks for asking. Everything is much the same. I went to an urgent care place and they said that there was nothing they could do and they wouldn't even see me. I'm just taking it easy and holding out til we get home.
