Hi I was just wondering if anyone could offer any experiences they've had mainly with Mirtazipine and widthdrawl's?...I've went two days cold turkey and feel like cryng, head is fried, went back and took one a few minutes ago because I literally can't bear it, also I'm addicted to Valium, any insight on any experiences or what you find works for you I'd appreciate, doses are 30mg Mirtazipine but I've dropped to 15 the past week, Valium 10mg per day, any help or support I'd appreciate thanks.

Okay first up - is the reason you went cold turkey because you ran out of them, or because you felt you needed to do it cold turkey?

IrishLad · 24/12/2017 16:13

@BattleCunt thanks for the reply just because I wanted to try and see how I felt off of them I took 15mg Mirtazipine last night I'm fine now, a bit worried about the effect cold turkey had, I mean I know Valium is gonna be hard I've been taking it 7-8 years, but Mirtazipine only six months and the Doc told me it wasn't addictive and I could come off it easily anytime I liked, he's very mistaken from what I was experiencing.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 24/12/2017 16:19

I was on 30mg; reduced to 15mg for 2 weeks, then 7.5mg for 2 weeks then took 7.5mg every other day for 2 weeks then stopped all together.
No side effects at all but I also take 20mg citalopram so that running in the background might have helped avoid that.

The diazepam, well I think you'll need medical advice/support in order to stop taking it, especially as you've been on it so long. I've never been allowed a prescription of longer than 2 weeks due to how addictive it is.

Wishing you all the best with it all Flowers

the Doc told me it wasn't addictive and I could come off it easily anytime I liked

Doctors tend to say this about most things. I was told pregablin was not addictive. Now I have to have 300mg twice per day and if I miss even a day I get awful cramps, shakes, headaches and such. Turns out, a friend of mine who used to be addicted to heroin, reckons it was harder coming off pregablin than heroin!

Mirtazipine, I am lucky enough to not have got addicted to that, though I would have done if I had taken doctors advice and took it even when I did not need it.

Good luck. Withdrawals are a bitch..

BattleCunt · 24/12/2017 16:31

So basically it's not addictive, but the withdrawal effects are a bastard and will make you feel awful. You can't go cold turkey on it because it's really unpleasant.

Take half your usual dose today. Keep doing that for the next seven days. Half if again, take for a further seven. You should start to feel less hideous from withdrawal that way.

As to the diazepam - what's your dosage there and how often?

IrishLad · 24/12/2017 16:38

Thanks so much for the reply I'm gonna stick with 15mg for a week then cut down to 7.5 then cut down a bit more and see how I feel, as for the Valium I think I'll wait until I have the Mirtazipine done because both at the same time would be unthinkable, I'm taking 10mg a day in two doses of 5mg, I think im going to have to devise a plan to drop them no more than 2mg at the time from what I've been reading it seems like more than a 2mg drop especially in the later stages can make it a lot harder?

I've went through Valium widthdrawl for 10 days and it was hell I had to give in and go back taking them but with the proper structure to drop the dose I can do it I know it's possible but like @BatShite said it is as hard if not harder than Heroin from what I've been told from people who have been on Heroin also.

Thanks for the replies I didn't expect any so soon, great to see people who like to help :D

MichaelFabricantsHair · 24/12/2017 18:28

@batshite yes I was on a mega dose of duloxetine for some time, Dr said nothing about potential withdrawals, and sort of left me to it when I reduced then stopped my dose. But my god, I found it harder getting off that than I did MST. It's put me off ever taking it again!

MountainDweller · 25/12/2017 04:50

Be careful withdrawing from the Valium - don't try cold turkey as it can cause seizures. You need to reduce by 10% of the dose every 2 weeks. If you feel OK on the new dose reduce again in 2 weeks. If you don't feel OK - more anxious than usual or flu like symptoms, stay on that dose till the symptoms settle. Good idea to leave it till you are off the mirtazipine.

BattleCunt · 25/12/2017 05:18

Okay so you are dependent on diazepam, but that's not addict behaviour you're displaying there. Addictive behaviours are wholly irrational, you lose all choice and everything is an impulse because it literally changes the brain.

Here is a list of the different kinds of ways addictions affects you..

Now unless you're displaying that kind of thing, my guess is that you're dependent and not addicted. You're absolutely right, stopping diazepam NOW would be a mistake. Taper yourself off mirtazapine, and ask your doctor to help you taper off diazepam.

IrishLad · 26/12/2017 14:59

Thanks guys for the responses, and also for not making me feel like an addict in regards to the Valium, I did have problem with Alcohol in the past and was addicted but kicked that, then the Mirtazipine I was put on after about a year off the drink because I literally coulnd't handle everyday life, but the Valium I'm steady on there's no deviation from the doses, the same with the Mirtazipine, slowly but surely I'll get there I'm down to 15mg still steady and my heads clear so another 5-6 days and I'll drop to 7.5 I think thanks so much everyone for your input, I'll keep the topic updated on my progress for the sake of others also, Happy Holidays :D

BattleCunt · 27/12/2017 04:57

@IrishLad I think you've got this covered.

So many people try and cut these things out cold turkey, and it makes it more and more difficult, and also makes them more susceptible to blips. I've helped folks in really bad states before, but something tells me you're going to be just fine.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 27/12/2017 09:29

If you struggle dropping from 7.5mg mirtazapine you can take one every other day, or pick up a pill cutter from the chemist for a couple of pounds and taper off from the 7.5mg at your own pace.

As Battlecunt says, you sound like you've got this. Good luck with it all Smile

IrishLad · 27/12/2017 16:54

Thanks a million yeah I don't think the real challenge will come until the Valium to be honest although when I did write this post first my head wasn't right at all, it goes to show what a dramatic drop off meds can do, once I get down to 7.5 I'll probably be a bit iffy about things for a day or two but it should be fine the Valium will be a whole other battle I'll deal with that when I come to it, Hope ye had a great Christmas :D

MichaelFabricantsHair · 27/12/2017 17:12

Make sure you get support from your GP when you do eventually come off the valium. I had a tough time coming off 100mg of MST, mainly because I rushed once I got down to the last 40mg, which my GP had warned me not to do...but i thought I knew better Grin

IrishLad · 27/12/2017 17:22

Yeah I will do thanks I tried them cold turkey before and I suffered hell for 10 days it's a really mental drug I couldn't leave the bed without panic attacks even my family and people I talked to everyday rattle me by just asking was I ok, mental drug not advisable.
