I normally get my B12 injection every 12 weeks but have just realised I’m 3 months overdue in getting it as my last one was beginning of July - so I’ve effectively missed one dose completely! My fault for being an idiot and totally forgetting about it.

I’ve been absolutely exhausted lately and couldn’t work out why - just put it down to the time of year and the fact I’ve been very stressed lately. But I’m guessing it’s due to the lack of b12 now I’ve realised how overdue I am! I have no energy to do anything and feel unbelievably lethargic.

I have severe anxiety and am now massively panicking about getting through Christmas before I can get another injection, and have visions of myself just collapsing or something... just wondering if a) anyone can tell me I’m just being ridiculous and that a few days will make no difference and I’m not about to collapse (fainting is my biggest anxiety trigger) or b) whether I’m right to be so concerned and if so, what to do. My anxiety is now in full blown overdrive and I’ve lost all perspective and rational thought!

I'm sure a few days won't make any difference.

I have mild B12 deficiency, not bad enough for injections, so I just take sublingual B12 tablets, the methylcobalamin ones. I can currently see lots on amazon with delivery tomorrow if you've got prime? Like these:

www.amazon.co.uk/Jarrow-Methylcobalamin-B12-1000mcg-Lozenges/dp/B002FJW3ZY/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?keywords=b12+methylcobalamin&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1514037826&sr=8-4

You could take at least one a day of those if not more until you can get the injection?

Disclaimer: I have NO medical training whatsoever. If you're really worried try asking a pharmacist or phoning 111?

You can get vitamin B12 tablets too (which I take). Don't know if your injections are higher dose, but you could maybe get the tablets and take them to tide you over?

You can get them on the internet, prob need quite a specialist high street shop to find them tho.

I take the tablets and definitely notice a difference when I miss some - my levels were pretty shockingly low before. I do keep meaning to enquire about the injection but keep forgetting (perils of being married to a GP!)

You could buy multivitamins with a good level of B12 in them as a short term boost - I don’t think you’ll collapse without the injection, but you haven’t said why your levels are so low, which I think would make an impact.

Thanks so much for replying! They’ve never actually said why my levels are low... Whenever I’ve asked my doctor she has just said that some people can’t/don’t absorb it. Not been diagnosed with anything official at all, and have been having the injections for years now. I hadn’t even thought about buying the tablets... I’ve just ordered some on amazon prime (vitamin B12 Methylcobalamin 1000mcg) which say they’ll arrive tomorrow. I feel better just knowing that - even though I suspect they aren’t quite as high in dose as the injection is but they can’t do any harm and it will psychologically help me to know I’m getting some in my system! Guess they’ll take a while before I feel the effects but definitely better than nothing. Just looked up the injection I have and that’s ‘hydroxocobalamin 1mg/1ml solution for injection’ - in case any medical professionals are reading. Xmas Smile
