Any recomendations on bedding for DD (3.5) who has Asthma, could dustmites be cause?

My DD (3.5) has Asthma she was diagnosed at 2yrs, and it only presented itself as a persistant night time cough after a cold. We have Becotide and ventolin inhalers and use them as prescribed. Up until last week this has been fine and only really had to use the preventor, but last week she started coughing at night and she has not had a cold. So I assume somthing else has triggered it off. She was coughing really badly and I was worried about her - so as DH was on nights brought her into bed with me. She settled down and went to sleep and from about 1.30am slpet through. Now the same thing happened again the next night - she settled down once in our room. So I am wondering if it is something in her room that has triggered it of. There is nothing new in there - but am wondering if it could be dust mites - she has loads and loads of cuddly toys on her bed. DH is removing them today and I will vac the bed and change it tonight to see if that makes any difference.

Does any one think this could be the cause - and if so why would it trigger now when the toys have always been there?

and would special anti dustmite bedding help ? if so does any one recomend any particular type?

Many thanks

The asthma society would have info about bedding. You have to move all cuddly toys out of the bedroom. Wash them regularly and put them in the freezer from time to time to get rid of mites. No carpets or curtains, and vaccuum the mattress regularly and get anti dust mite mattress cover, and washable duvet and pillows and antidustmite covers for those.

Also the tree pollen is really high ATM and falls down in the evening. You have to make sure outdoor clothing doesn't go into bedrooms, and do more frequent hairwashing etc to get rid of pollen.

DS1 is 14 and I have just bought anti allergy duvet and mattress cover from M&S. Not too expensive and has made a world of difference. JL also do children's anti allergy duvets. He has laminate floor, a blind instead of a curtain and no teddies on his bed. Open the window every day to air the room.

Ahh - didn't realise about tree pollen - because it has only affected her after a cough before - I didn't link it to pollen etc. That makes sense this last week doesn't it with the weather. Must admit I only wash her hair once a week as it is very long - and we have been outdoors more than usual because of the weather. Will wash more often, and get rid of cuddlies out of room, and get anti dust mite protectors. Will look at Asthma society website as suggested.

Thanks very much for info.
