To Expect My Arse Not To Leak?

PopACapInMyAssPlease · 21/12/2017 16:25

Warning: this is grim.

Have had bowel problems (read loose stools and anal leakage for a while).

Had a major episode after some pizza (ill for 2 days, crying on loo) so thought maybe I was coeliac/gluten intolerant and have been steadily working towards finding out exactly what upsets me, but still none the wiser.

Weetabix and Coco Pips are fine, bread with gluten in is not. I can (fortunately) cope with cake and had 2 slices of ciabatta last month with no ill effects.

So WTF is wrong with me?

I've succumbed to the D and V virus that's been going around, so I think my intestines are all a bit damaged and raw as I had some dry Frosties and was on the loo all the next day.

I'm really upset about this. My arse is literally leaking, constantly wiping/ showering my bum has set the piles my last DC gave me off.

Any ideas? If anyone hasn't had piles and the shits, believe me, I'm not exaggerating when I say I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy.

My bum makes me want to cry. Please help.

Really feeling for you, poor thing!! I would get pushy with gp and be referred to a women’s health Physio and bowel clinic in the hospital. They see issues like this day in day out and could help identify the root cause much quicker than us. Often nurses don’t pick up on prolapse if lying down when assessed so worth getting checked out

Has anyone experience of ibuprofen making ibs worse? I read this a while ago. I was taking sinus medication with ibuprofen and now, nearly a week later, can't seem to tolerate any food.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 22/12/2017 18:15

Ibuprofen is terrible for your digestive system. Lots of us who suffer from an IBD have to avoid NSAIDs because they damage the stomach wall and cause upsets.

Just out of curiosity, does it make any difference when you remove all milk and butter and other dairy products and other food that when you read the fine print you realise they contain skimmed milk, casein, dairy etc.? The pizza you mention contain both bread (gluten) but also quite a lot of cheese (produced from cow's milk). I noticed there seems not to be any milk in neither Weetabix nor in Ciabatta, but may well be in ordinary bread (as it often tastes better).

Thanks Bobbin. Anything I can do or just wait it out?

BobbinThreadbare123 · 22/12/2017 19:18

Alas, just wait it out. Your body will get rid. Drink plenty of water. I find some nice bland food like porridge can be helpful too.

underthebluemoon · 22/12/2017 19:32

Thanks. Will get some porridge.

If you tore in childbirth any chance you had a 3rd degree tear which was missed. This needs to be repaired expertly and if not diagnosed can manifest with huge problems as you go through the menopause of faecal incontinence.

Please go see the GP

ladycardamom · 22/12/2017 20:05

I used to have similar. Couldn't fart without sitting on loo as it was accompanied by a small flood of liquid poo. Had a colonoscopy and diagnosed as.proctitis. all treated now and no more sharting incidents.

ConcreteUnderpants · 23/12/2017 10:30

Well, here's my update.
Miraculously managed to see my GP yesterday. He suspects Crohn's or colitis. Hoping it is that rather than childbirth problems (I'm extra worried now). He called through and got them to take my bloods, made me an appointment for next week to discuss the results, gave me some Mebeverine and made an urgent hospital gastro referral.

Tried to book and out of 3 hospitals, the earliest they can see me is the beginning of Feb. I guess their take on urgent is different to mine!

Apparently it was August when I last went in complaining of the same thing, so I've only had 2 good months since then.
Still, happy my GP is taking this seriously as I was worried I'd just be robbed off with 'IBS' or 'food intolerance'.

ConcreteUnderpants · 23/12/2017 10:34

Gosh I never realised this was so wide spread. It seems to be like PND or piles: no one talks about it until you mention you've been suffering and then loads of people admit problems.

Had a really bad couple of days - so lightheaded I can barely stand, lower back is killing me and I've bawled at the kids for no real reason. Thank God for the TV and all the Xmas cartoons on atm as it's all I can do to lie there.

Big hugs to you all. Unless you've been there, I don't think people understand how debilitating bowel problems really are.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 23/12/2017 14:18

Just take it easy. I look 'well' but am often drained and obviously if your bowel doesn't work properly you're not getting all the nutrients from food. Drink plenty of water. Take a multivitamin. I take an absolute cocktail of meds and there's almost always another thing to try. I'm on a sulfasalazine type, an immunosuppressive med, and a biologic. This is usually enough to keep me ticking over. I had symptoms for many years before getting a diagnosis and mine was done as an emergency because it got so bad! You have to keep pushing. February isn't that far away.

I have had issues like this since I had my gallbladder out 14 years ago - explosive, horrendous diarrhoea after eating fatty foods in particular.

One thing which hasn't been mentioned is thyroid - I've started on treatment for an underactive thyroid and even on 50 micrograms a day which is the very lowest dose, I've been so much better. I didn't think the two could be connected but a bit of googling told me that lots of pepole with an underactive thyroid have bowel problems, either constipation or diarrhoea. Worth getting bloods done.

FuckitAndStartAgain · 21/02/2018 18:12

I have had diarrhoea and have sat myself regularly for a few years. Last year had all the investigations, I have some nerve damage so minimal rectal control, and was told IBS and to try FODMAP. Have just had nearly a month of constant leaking, explosions etc (no pain due to no nerves) I am finally trying FODMAP. I still keep making mistakes so am not FODMAP free but nearly two weeks in I feel so much better. Today I have even tried not using a pad! Really worth trying, just need to master it, let things settle down and then reintroduce stuff.

FuckitAndStartAgain · 21/02/2018 18:14

PS I was using in excess of 24 Imodium most days and still shitting. Sudocream and Johnson’s baby wipes and a pile of nappy bags for disposal. The only way I could even think of managing. Mind you have still not left the house (since Jan 6th 😔).

ConcreteUnderpants · 15/08/2018 12:30

Update: Basically nothing has changed. Ive had a few months respite where ive essentially survived on crisps and chocolate, but 2 episodes since the start of the school holidays has knocked me for six.

I'm sitting here crying in pain with my bum. Again. Had some egg noodles yesterday lunch and a few bits of tagliatelli on the evening. I'm a stupid idiot, I know.
Spent last night with trapped wind and poo problems. Been to the loo a million times today, setting off my haemorroid and resulting in my pathetic breakdown.

Had a colonoscopy, which showed nothing abnormal, so now I've been put under the vague umbrella of stress-related IBS.
Been given Lopermide, an anti spasmodic. Not sure it's doing anything.

I'm fed up, depressed, sore, exhausted.
And to top it off, I've heard rat scampering noises in my loft.

ConcreteUnderpants · 15/08/2018 12:35

Still feel like I'm none the wiser regarding my triggers. I've eaten Coco Pops and a Dominos to no ill effect. Courgette tagliatelli (wIth rIcotta and cheddar) seemed to set me off.

BusterGonad · 20/08/2018 07:53

Does popcorn effect you? Salad?

S22 · 18/12/2024 17:07

Update for anyone else going through this like me- seen gp who has given me stool samples and bloods. Says may need colonoscopy. I thought it’s be something simple like given me some laxatives or just telling me to up my fiber or blaming it on my 4degree tear. But nope . Glad getting checked .
