Sinusitis/tinnitus

Started with a sore throat at the weekend, which has led to a 'cold', I'm blowing my nose a lot & im recognising the symptoms now as sinusitis- I had this at the beginning of the year, which leads to ringing in my ears and all other sounds are muted. It was a nightmare when I had it before, I had it for what seemed like several weeks before I could hear properly again, I went to the drs who couldn't really do anything, in the end I was desperate so I looked on dr Google & pinched both nostrils closed & blew as hard as I could & heard a loud popping sound & that was it I could hear again! I've tried it this time round but the ringing/buzzing is still present.

I've just been taking paracetamol/ibuprofen for the symptoms, is there anything else I could try to get rid of the sinusitis?

My brother had chronic sinusitis and he constantly had a nasal stick thingy on him at all times, have you tried those? Really helped clear his nose. He Also had a habit of sticking rolled up toliet paper up his nose. Be left them around the house though it was kind of gross. Someone also told me you can apply warm packs to your face. It apparently helps to drain mucus from your sinuses. Also salt water to clean the inside of your nose so its not as blocked/snottery if that's a problem for you. Good luck!

You could try using an ear popper device which are magic for clearing ears blocked by fluid / infection. Stupidly expensive but very effective - you can buy in Boots. Otherwise lots of steaming and hot drinks - avoid nasal sprays and Sudafed for more than a few days, they can make it far worse (rebound congestion)

You need a neti pot - large boots or indie chemists sell them. Then use to flush your sinuses with saline solution.

I've had sinusitis for years and this is really the only effective thing. Be careful about the hard blowing - it can make things worse.

The Caroline Hirons facial massage is excellent too - specifically the sinus points - rubbing these and you can actually feel things draining away (grim but lovely):

"Place your first 2 fingers in the hollow under your cheekbone and massage gently. This will be really painful if you are suffering from a cold/hayfever – but will equally ease the blocked nose/throat symptoms if you gently persevere."

As a sufferer, get Sterimar salt spray and a daily non drowsy antihistamine. Brillian combo.

I second the nasal rinsing, but think the Neilmed Sinus Rinse bottle is easier to use for a beginner.
