Eliquis Apixaban - any experience?

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of using eliquis Apixaban for DVT and suffered anxiety?

DP has been on the meds almost three weeks and his anxiety has peaked. I don't think it is linked to the medication more than DVT but does anyone know if it is worth seeing his GP about the anxiety and whether they would be able to prescribe anything to help?

I am finding it hard knowing how best to support him as no matter what I do it seems to add to the anxiety so any ideas would be greatfull received.

Thank you.

A quick bump and because my op doesn't make much sense I am wondering if you can take anti anxiety medication alongside eliquis Apixaban.

Would hate to waste GPs time however the anxiety is quite bad. Constantly worrying about every niggle and querying stroke / PE and no amount of reassurance or common sense is helping.

He has no signs of anything sinister at all, apart from the DVT however he is three weeks into treatment now so I don't even know if that will still be there. I think any usual ache / pain is really triggering him thinking it is much more.

Is it worth having a chat with his pharmacist? If it's a new med it's worth that chat to assess how it suits him.

Have you googled/ read the list of side effects on the package insert?
Some drugs have very peculiar side effects.
Maybe he is just very anxious about the whole experience?
Do you know why he had the dvt?
What is the treatment/ follow up plan? Maybe it has all been a bit scary.

Oh that might be a good starting point actually. Maybe they can give him some reassurance.

He has already had two gp visits since being diagnosed and he does seem much calmer after reassurance from them so that could help. Never crossed my mind so thank you.

It has definitely been scary and I completely understand his anxiety but it is awful seeing him like that.

It is scar tissue from a previous DVT which he sustained during a long hospital stay in his late teens.

He is early 30s and fit and well apart from this.

Oh and yes we have both looked into side effects however if he suspects I am looking at it this triggers his anxiety and he gets angry and asks me to stop, I guess from fear of what we will uncover.

The medication seems to be having little effect on him other than tiredness but in all honesty that could be the anxiety as he said he isn't sleeping well because of it.

It might be completely unrelated to the medication, but if his anxiety is really bad then he needs to see the GP regardless. He may need some help managing his anxiety and the GP can help with this.

Thank you. I think just knowing the GP is a good port of call is reassuring for me. I will try and get him an appointment tomorrow.

If anyone has any tips to help that would be great.

I know anxiety is not rational and difficult to manage but if there is anything I can do to help I would like to.

I have just looked up side effects and anxiety isnt mentioned.
It seems probable that he is anxious about having had a second dvt. Which is unsurprising, to be fair.
He mught need a bit or extra reassurance from his doctor. It is quite a frightening thing to experience. I am sorry you are going through this.
Is it impacting his job?
Is he off sick?
Could that be worrying him?

No he returned to work as soon as he was discharged from hospital. From what I have seen (I haven't been to his GP appointments) but they don't seem concerned at all about the clot or why it's returned. I think it is a possibility it can happen again if there is a lot of scar tissue and unfortunately it has happened to him.

I know going forward the plan at t he moment is to be on medication for life which I think will give him peace of mind once this anxiety is treated.

I will have a read, thank you.
