Should I rearrange this appointment?

I changed my contraception recently, have currently been “on” for 7 long weeks:(

I have a gynae appt next Wednesday (unrelated issue) and I’m not sure if it will end by then. The appointment has taken months to come in so I want to avoid cancelling - I need to have a minor surgical procedure booked and don’t want to delay that further. (The next available appt is 18th of January!) My problem can be confirmed instantly so no in depth exam necessary. Wibu to not rearrange this appointment?

I have never been to such an appointment before so not sure of protocol. (I have also been to GP regarding being on for so long)

What contraception is it? So the appointment won't involve examination in that area? If you have been waiting a long time for the appointment then I would go to it

PollyPerky · 16/12/2017 10:52

I think what you are saying is that you may still be bleeding when you have the gynae appt? Yes?

Is this some procedure on your cervix? Are they going to do it on the day? Usually, any bleeding is not a problem. Even when being examined.

Phone up and ask first?

Thanks for your replySmile

Switched from the pill to the contraceptive injection so my hormones are quite unbalanced. I have been waiting since September. I’m not sure what gynae appointments entail but the exam with my GP lasted about a minute to verify the issue so I’m hoping it would be the same

I bled with the injection too (and or in loads of weight). I gave up after the second injection as the bleeding did not stop. If you want children in the future also be aware it can delay the return to fertility for a year (Or more in some cases)

absolutelyembarrassed · 16/12/2017 11:03

Yes you’re correct polly, I’m worried that I may need to rearrange the appointment due to that.

No, not a cervix procedure but something minor. I won’t have the treatment on the day, but it will be scheduled after this appointment.

Unless they've said that you should arrange it for when you're not on your period then you should be ok. Best to check though. I had colposcopy whilst bleeding because the problem was the bleeding so unavoidable iyswim.

absolutelyembarrassed · 16/12/2017 11:16

Thanks for that dementedpixie Smile I’m actually due for the next injection in January, not sure if I’ll take it now

absolutelyembarrassed · 16/12/2017 11:17

Ah yes I see Hogtini. I’m going to give them a call now and see what they suggest

Good luck Xmas Smile

Floralnomad · 16/12/2017 11:23

I’d just go to the appt unless it specifies on the letter that you cannot be having a period , I would imagine that gynae Drs see more ‘bleeding’ women than ones that are not .

absolutelyembarrassed · 16/12/2017 11:29

Hmm the advisor wasn’t sure either - she recommended to wait until the day and if I am bleeding, cancel. If I do cancel, I’m back on the waiting list and could be waiting months again Sad just fab

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 16/12/2017 11:32

Just go. Better than being put on the waiting list again

absolutelyembarrassed · 16/12/2017 11:32

I am tempted Floralnomad. The letter did not mention bleeding at all. Fingers crossed that this stops soon! Blush

dementedpixie · 16/12/2017 11:35

What pill were you on? Could you take it alongside the injection to see if the bleeding stops again?

NoSquirrels · 16/12/2017 11:44

I’d just go. Then mention it when you’re there at the outset of the appointment. Vast majority of times some blood is not an issue - for procedures like smear etc it is usually because blood cells can confuse the results, nothing to do with the examination side of things.

RandomMess · 16/12/2017 11:48

I wonder if you get an Appt and get norithersone (spelling?) it would halt the bleeding in time??? Is it spotting or more than that?

absolutelyembarrassed · 16/12/2017 12:01

Microgynon dementedpixie. hmm I don’t have any pills left but I’m going to see my GP on Monday. He suggested that he could give me the next injection early, or one that slows the first one down

Thank you NoSquirrels. I’m 21 so probably won’t have a smear test. A quick examination will be needed, although the issue is easily apparent so hopefully it won’t be an issue.

Interesting RandomMess I’ll mention that to my GP. Well it started as a heavy flow, but was extremely light a few days ago so I thought it was ending - annoyingly it’s now increasingHmm gave me hope for a minute

Update:

When I got to the hospital, the gynaecologist and her assistant couldn’t care less about my period - they really put me at ease. She thought it would be silly of me to cancel the appointment over something they see all the time, so I’m glad I went in.

dementedpixie · 21/12/2017 18:33

Glad it went ok

Floralnomad · 21/12/2017 18:34

That’s good then .

NoSquirrels · 21/12/2017 20:18

Great! Glad they reassured you.
