Day 7 of my cycle, dh and I had sex, he didn't finish inside. No protection. What are the chances of me being pregnant?? The wait until my next period has never seemed longer.

You don't know about heavy periods until you try it though. What about condoms?

Greenshoots1 · 16/12/2017 07:34

ok, I'm sorry if I upset you, but really, you need to look at your sources a bit more critically. About 1% of woman taking the pill get pregnant every year, and about 10-20% of women using natural cycles. ( and about 80-90% of women using no contraception) It decreases the chance of pregnancy but really, I find the idea that you are trying to use a mobile phone as a contraceptive device a bit naive.

As previous posters have said, this is for people who don't mind getting pregnant.

(Although exactly who these people are, who don't mind one way or another I have never been able to fathom! maybe it used to space children out a bit whilst building a family, I don't really know)

Anyway, I won't say anything else. I wish you luck and happiness, wither way.

Bubbles120 · 16/12/2017 07:35

Yes I use natural cycles and love it! Did it manage to pick up your ovulation from your past cycles? If so and it's saying not fertile you'll be fine it doesn't give you a green day if its not 100% certain. If your worried about it use condoms until you've done your three cycles and it can understand your cycles better.

LolitaLempicka · 16/12/2017 07:39

I have been using a copper coil since my teens, almost 20 years now. With only breaks for children, my periods are actually much lighter than most of friends. They last only 5 days, of which 3 are really light. If it had turned out that the coil caused horrendous periods I could have just had it removed. You could just try it out.

un1c0rn · 16/12/2017 07:42

Bubbles it detected my ovulation last month yes

Condoms?

Crumbs1 · 16/12/2017 08:36

Condoms won’t upset your hormones. You really should only be relying on estimating fertility as a form of contraception if you are not minding getting pregnant, if it happens. You’ll drive yourself into a stress filled hole if you don’t want to be pregnant but don’t trust the measures you have in place to avoid contraception.
Book an appointment at your GPS to discuss contraception options.

Blahblahblahzeeblah · 16/12/2017 08:41

I use NFP. It's worked perfectly for me.

Your cycles are shorter than average and assuming the usual length of luteal phase would mean you ovulate earlier. Sperm can survive for up to 5 days I believe so there is a chance you could get pregnant.

You need to do more than just plugging in the dates of your periods for NFP to work though. My luteal phase is short so I ovulate in what would be assumed to be my 'safe' time.

PinkAvocado · 16/12/2017 08:42

I used this to help get pregnant and after 6 months it showed me that I’m not very regular and ovulated at different times than I thought. It really needs to go hand in hand with temping and checking CM I would say if you’re using it to prevent pregnancy.

Or use it alongside condoms.

AmeliaFlashtart · 16/12/2017 09:13

why not condoms OP? you keep ignoring this suggestion

BoredOnMatLeave · 16/12/2017 10:17

I don't know much about that app but I do NFP (but wouldn't be a problem if I was pregnant). Are you checking your temp, mucus and cervical positioning? If all 3 is monitored on the app it's probably quite good, if it's just going by the length of your cycle that wouldn't be enough for me to rely on.

To answer your original question you could be pregnant, we tend to use condoms 6 days into the cyle until I've finished ovulating.

un1c0rn · 16/12/2017 12:31

I'm temping and monitoring cm, opk test today was negative.

Dh is allergic to latex.

OP posts:
LionsTeeth · 16/12/2017 12:54

Latex free condoms exist and are easy to buy. Skins, for example.

un1c0rn · 16/12/2017 12:58

I'm half tempted to try micronor/noriday but the thought of incessant bleeding like mirena / cerazette is awful

OP posts:
AlexaAmbidextra · 16/12/2017 16:41

OP. If you are panicking so much at the thought of being pregnant then you really need to sort out a reliable method of contraception rather than the Russian roulette you are currently relying on. Obvious really isn't it?

MissBax · 16/12/2017 20:17

Oral sex, OP.

LolitaLempicka · 17/12/2017 03:33

Or anal?

AmeliaFlashtart · 17/12/2017 08:51

Is he now? You know latex free condoms are available in all Boots stores and no doubt Superdrug, independent chemists and supermarkets? Buy some, see if its really that he just doesn't like condoms allergic.

Rainbowandraindrops67 · 17/12/2017 09:50

Don’t use natural planning if you don’t actually mind a baby - I know two couples that have got pregnant by this. Another therefore saying use condoms!

The chances this cycle may be low but don’t be so silly in future (unless you actually want a baby that is!)

scaevola · 17/12/2017 09:54

If you use NFP, you need to do it properly, which means a sympto-thermal chart which you have tracked for some months (so you are completely familiar with it..

Calendar based methods do not work well at all.

If OP's cycles can be a short as 22 days, then yes there is risk if pregnancy here, and unless Ok with the idea of pregnancy then I suggest OP seeks emergency contraception ASAP

gamerchick · 17/12/2017 10:00

I'm guessing the husband won't use them which is why the OP is avoiding the condom thing. There are latex free ones on the market.

Rainbowandraindrops67 · 17/12/2017 10:51

Just to add pre cum can contain sperm too so withdrawing before he comes isn’t even that reliable

PollyPerky · 17/12/2017 11:24

It's possible. I conceived having DTD on day 9 or what was usually a long cycle (30-32 days) normally. She wasn't unwanted, but it was a surprise as 1st DC took 8 months of 'trying'. I was in my 30s as well.
So yes, you could be. Small chance, but yes.

StylishDuck · 17/12/2017 11:55

I'm curious. You seem so defensive of the effectiveness of NFP. Why the need to ask the question in your OP in the first place? If your app says you won't get pregnant then surely you're safe? Or if you aren't as confident in it as you claim to be then you should use condoms (latex free of course).
