Because I think I have it. I have a very runny nose, teary eyes.

What are the symptoms? What treatment options are there?

this is the neals yard stuff but it is pricey - esp. i you have no faith in it - even the placebo effect will be lost on you!

Some interesting tips for me here as well, all my dcs are pouring from nose and eyes, presume it is hayfever but can't rule out the fact that they have colds.
NQC - because of the age of my dts I am also fairly relaxed about medicines that I take now

DH doesn't mix with antihistamines very well either and suffers badly this time of year. For him what really helps is consistant use of Antifect - a Potters herbal remedy (Boots and such like stock it). It doesn't kick in straight away, and he now takes it before the rapeseed comes into bloom and it more or less keeps it in check, if he keeps taking it regularly. (Means having a pot of the pills everywhere mind - home, car, work etc so he can take them when he remembers!!)
Might need to check on the suitability for use when bf tho.

Hmmm, I've just been doing the bed for my ILs and my nose is now really bad. To be fair, I think my nose is acting up more at night than in the day, so maybe our duvet is a partial cause? The spare room sheets were pretty dusty, as we don't change them until people come, because what would be the point?

(Must change sheets etc more often, too )

ds 3.10 has had a terrible nose the last two nights and I'm sure it's hayfever rather than a cold. What can I give a lo of this age?

(Have noted the honey for next year, though we're in London too and I have no idea if there is a bee 'farm' near here!)

Overrun · 21/04/2007 19:55

99redballoons, if you are not anti medication, they can have antihistimines at that age, mine take piriton, although I am not sure how effective it is being this year

Swizzler · 21/04/2007 19:59

There are vafrious herbal remedies - think nettle tea is one (never really worked for me though). You can also try dabbing your nose with vaseline, which is supposed to stop the pollen in its tracks.

Ds has just been taking Piriton for his c-pox which he had over Easter. Maybe that kept the first signs of hayfever at bay too as the stuffy nose has only appeared since coming off it. May try the vaseline trick too and the sheet over the bed sounds good too. Thx

99redballoons · 21/04/2007 20:01

Doh, how many times can you write 'too' in a post!

Kaloo20 · 21/04/2007 20:04

DD started sniffing constantly and telling me that blowing her nose made her feel worse on Tuesday? Have given her Piriton 2x a day (6.30am and midday) for the last 3 days.
Eased the symptoms - but is it OK to do this all summer or is there a limit how long piriton can be given for ? DD 8

Mhamai · 21/04/2007 20:09

God bless your dd's constitution that's all I can say, I took one on Tuesday and was drowsy for the day!

Overrun · 21/04/2007 20:11

Kaloo, I think you can give it all summer long if it helps, you are supposed to start before you become symptomatic to get really good relief.
I must try the vaseline one, ta
