Everyone has been ill, house feels disgusting how to deep clean everything?

Hello, just wondering if anyone has any tips?

This is the first time ever since moving in together in march 2016 that we have all been really sick, including our 12 month old baby.
We all have chesty coughs now and colds, the worst seems to be over but now the whole house seems to feel really dirty and germy!

What do I do? I want to air the house out but it's freezing outside. Do I need to scrub everything with disinfectant? Bleach?
I'm on my 4th load of washing today.
Is there anywhere I need to clean that I'm not thinking of?

I want us to all be ok before Christmas and the house to be perfect. I don't feel Christmassy at all! I just feel gross! Sad

The only place I use beach is the toilet.

In these circumstances I would do the upstairs and leave the windows open she you're doing it and for a half hour after. Repeat the downstairs.

I'd just use whatever you normally use but remember particularly to do door handles and light switches. Change all the beds and hoover the mattresses if you can face it.

Good luck!

If you've all had the bug you should be immune and won't catch it again.
Remember overuse of chemicals is associated with more allergies so don't go overboard.

Vac carpets and wipe surfaces over with antibac

I've done all of the obvious stuff like the usual clean.

Need to do bedding next. Is it worth scrubbing things like skirting boards and the inside of cupboards? Windows?

I'm so paranoid we'll be ill on Christmas.

Last year I had just given birth and had PND so it was a rubbish Christmas, I wanted this Christmas to be so much better.

I feel so dirty when I'm ill. I tend to over use bleach when I get like this, it's the only thing to make me feel clean Sad

Scrub skirting boards?! Are you planning on touching them on a regular basis?! I doubt you can catch much from a skirting board.

Easilyflattered · 11/12/2017 18:41

I use that dettol laundry disinfectant stuff in the wash when washing beds and towels after a bout of sickness. Psychologically i feel the benefit if nothing else. I wouldn't bother with skirting boards but definitely door handles etc.

PurplePillowCase · 11/12/2017 18:44

yes. air the house out. in 10 min bursts, it will not get too cold that way.
wash bedding & pj's, replace toothbrushes, clean all door handles with soapy water, wipe remote control and phone etc.
hope that's it for now!

GG23 · 11/12/2017 18:58

@roundaboutthetown no but I have a crawling/walking 12 month old who pretty much touches everything! So yes I did the skirting boards...

Thanks everyone! I just want us all to be better again for Christmas.

Yes to opening windows - you only need to do it for 15 minutes or so (could you perhaps do it whilst you're all out on a short errand? Obvs only if you have window bolts to fasten them ajar).

No don't chuck bleach/dininfectact around everywhere.

If you really must, because you do sound a bit anxious, then use a very weak solution if disinfectant (perhaps Zoflora, as you'll notice the smell which will reassure you), and wipe doorknobs, light switches, telephones and remote controls. Possibly also bin lids and loo roll holders.

Yes, wash bedding, and any clothes worn during the outbreak, on as hot as they can take. Air pillows and duvets outdoors. Change toothbrushes, sponges etc.

roundaboutthetown · 11/12/2017 19:33

Tbh, as your 12-month old is a walking germ factory and super spreader (babies don't sneeze into disposable tissues and wash their hands), I doubt you're saving yourself from much - you should have immunity now to the bugs that gave you your latest illnesses, since you have all been ill, and anything else you get will be brought in from outside. You can't deep clean your house every day, nor can you easily make your baby 100% hygienic, so however clean your house is now, the outside world is still there to get you!
