Xmas Smile Not sure if this will work but here goes..

Talk on AIBU about sexual health topic but decided just to do a thread instead for anyone dealing with (for instance) , endometriosis, pelvic pain, herpes/STIs , fibroids, vulvodynia, lichen scelorsis, VIN , vaginismus/sexual dysfunction etc ..

Be nice to have somewhere friendly to talk, there are forums on google but most very American, or dated, not user friendly or pushing weird and wonderful cures like cannabis lube.

So I'm shouldnt, I'm 26 and have had problems for a long long time. Presently have been told chronic pelvic pain with adhesions of unknown cause, urethral stricture , interstitial cystitis , also vaginismus and vulvodynia probably caused by all of the above. Had a big operation at 21 and many many procedures and admissions since. Doctors think there will be one cause but no idea what. Have over time seen about 15 gynae and urology specialists.

I'm on a waiting list for psychosexual therapy having tried dilators a few years ago and not gotten on well .. also a lot of other referals. Self catheterise and take daily analgesia. Recently switched GP so trying to explain things all over again.

I did want to say no-one on MN can prove they're an expert in your condition (but many of us can offer bloody good advice and sympathy) .. and best to point out no judging, or shaming anyone.

Basic advice:

A pad an hour or more than a cup of blood is an emergency. If it looks a LOT to you , if you're uncontrollably flooding or if you're concerned , phone 111 or head to nearest doctor/A&E if you feel particularly ill.

If you've been or suspect you've been raped , abused, or assualted, phone for help or visit the police who can help. At the very least see a doctor or phone Rape Crisis.

If you've had unprotected sex and are worried - symptomatic or not, best to see a sexual health clinic or GP if you feel comfortable with them asap. Also worth seeking out MAP if you don't want a pregnancy.

There are a multitude of helplines and charities out there, can't list all unfortunately but most conditions have something available.

Don't feel ashamed of having a problem in an intimate area. It isn't your fault, it isn't dirty, it isn't a weakness, normal for women (ie severe period pain) or something you need to man up about .

So yeah.. hopefully we can support each other a bit? :)

I've been diagnosed with vaginismus as well, currently on the waiting list for psycho-sexual therapy (guessing some time in then new year, given what I was told about times, but it could be longer). In the mean time i have dilators, although I'm not really getting on brilliantly with them. Fortunately I also have a very lovely, very patient DH who mostly copes very well with my occasionally being a sobbing mess declaring that I'm useless and he should have married someone where he would have a normal sex life. And is also very good at other related activities so it's not all doom.
But it's not exactly something I can bring up in a chat with my friends, is it?
