Is Laser Eye really the best thing you ever did?

I have been wearing contacts for over 15 years and never had any problems-however these last few months I am finding the lense very uncomfortable in my left eye only!
I have been back and forth-trying different lenses and having my eyes checked-The Optician couldn't see any problems and now have basically said they can't offer any more lenses to try and I feel like they have washed their hands of me.
I am still in discomfort on and off with my eye
I HATE wearing my glasses.
Anyway because of this and the fact I do have the money I am seriously considering Laser Eye Surgery.
I am a little concerned-I have read the horror stories!
I watched a short video also and the procedure however quick looks barbaric.
So! Please reassure me it really is the best thing you ever did!
Thanks

TDH I have a consultation with Optegra at The Royal Eye Hospital in Manchester.
I am scared of the procedure.
I would actually be happy to keep wearing my CL but I feel like I have no options left as my Opticians have more or less said they don't know why I am having discomfort in my left eye and that I have trialed all the lenses they offer, and still cannot find one that suits!
I have worn bloody contacts for over 20yrs!!!! so why now???
I don't know if it IS a dryness issue as only happens now and again.
Maybe it is time to try a different Optician-however a free consultation and eye examine won't do me any harm!

I had -6 and astigmatism and had them done more than ten years ago (LASIK?) and it was life changing, in a good way!
I've started to wear glasses for reading (in my 50's) but just buy the cheap ready made ones in the shops.
The discomfort from the OP lasted a few hours but I just took paracetamol and went to bed and slept through it.

£3500 12 years ago, went from -10 in both eyes to -1 and -.75. BUT has affected my night vision whilst driving (wear tinted glasses to drive at night) and I don’t drive at night if I can help it. Overall worth it to me.

My BF had laser eye surgery about 10 years ago now. I think the staff involved weren’t able to assess his eyes properly and he has been left with multiple problems ever since. He is unable to drive in the dark at all due to glare, halo and general poor vision, he has blepharitis, severe dry eye that is very hard to manage and it has really impacted on his life. If you go ahead make sure you go with the best. BF has since been told that he should have never been offered laser as his eyes weren’t suitable. Something to do with pupil size I think (not sure though).

Forgot to say that glasses don’t help his vision problems either so he is pretty much stuffed there. The specialists he sees is considering a lens transplant :(. When laser goes wrong it can be devastating. I know he is one of the unlucky ones and that most people are really pleased with the results but I wanted to give an opinion from another perspective.
