Hello

My son was complaining this morning of a bad belly and back (he is only 2 and a half so cant get much more out of him than this), he didn't seem too keen on breakfast but was soooooo thirsty and kept drinking water.

He also did do a small poo at home this morning, nothing seemingly unusual about it

Mentioned it to nursery when i dropped him off. They just called and said he is on the loo crying his eyes out as it is hurting him trying to poo and he has been complaining for a while. Said he is also drinking lots of water so not sure if this is relevant

Nursery think it is clearly constipation but he did poo this morning so that would tell me it could be something else......?

He gets febrile convulsions so the first sign of any illness panics me greatly so any advise would be greatly appreciated

Kezza

Just to add - my husband is on his way to pick him up

Was his poo the same amount as usual this morning?

mummykezza · 08/12/2017 16:13

it was a little less than usual I guess. It didn't seem hard or anything like that. I guess it does just sound like constipation symptoms but the excessive thirst is a new one as well.

I do panic with him, even a urine infection gave him a fit before so I always get so worried. Thanks for replying

With excessive thirst, please get your GP to check for type 1 diabetes. It's a simple finger prick and always worth ruling out. Is he going to the toilet a lot (for a wee)?

You can buy urine test strips over the counter actually and you could test his urine for glucose yourself. If you find glucose take him straight to hospital.

Don't mean to panic you and I'm sure it's nothing. But excessive thirst and you do need to check.
