would like to come off the pill to give my body a break but have no clue about this stuff. going doctors tomorrow but would like an idea

my dp has described this to me but i cant find info about it

a small cap that is inserted permanently right up high and it lasts years. you still have periods but it kills sperm

i think you mean the cervical cap? not sure how reliable that it is, would imagine that the non-hormonal coil would be the most reliable non-hormonal method.

Kelly1978 · 19/04/2007 22:10

that sounds really interesting. I can't do the hormones, they don't agree with me so we jsut use condoms. I got pregnant while using the conventional cap.

juicychops · 19/04/2007 22:15

thats what im worried about as its supposed to be less effective once you have had a child.

does the coil make your periods heavier though? really dont think i can handle that. That was one of the reasons for going on the pill. But been on it for 6 years now (apart from when pregnant) and want my body to have a break

my dp hates condoms and when we have had to use them before when ive been on antibiotics etc they haven't really worked for us

just read about the cervical cap - you have to put it in and remove it each time. It says if left in more than 2 days you run the risk of toxic shock syndrome

really would prefer something permianent

I think the non hormonal coil can do, yes. I tried that it gave me really bad stomach cramps, so I had to have it taken out. You could consider the hormonal coil, it contains far less hormones, it depends whether you want to avoid them altogether.
I've had one scare with condoms and had to get the MAP, they aren't ideal.

ceolas · 19/04/2007 22:31

Everyone I know who's had a coil has had heavy bleeding. Mine lasted about 6 months but after that very effective and convenient

moondog · 19/04/2007 22:32

Chop his cock off

Kelly1978 · 19/04/2007 22:32

the only thing I can find about any new cap is the oves one, which you can leave in for 72 hours continously, which isn't too bad. Don't know how reliable it is though.

juicychops · 19/04/2007 22:42

i would prefer to avoid hormones altogether but if there is no permianent form of anything else maybe il have to stick to something that is just lower dose then.

how about the mini pill? ive just read about cerazette which is new and only one type of hormone unlike the normal pill. has anyone had experience of this? or any other type of mini pill?

im so clueless with all this

maybe chopping his dick off WOULD be a good idea

OP posts:
Kelly1978 · 19/04/2007 22:45

cerazette made me bleed non stop!

Kelly1978 · 19/04/2007 22:46

Oh and be reasonable, it's only his balls you need to chop off...

makkapakka · 19/04/2007 22:49

had non-hormonal coil for 5 years - found it great.

juicychops · 19/04/2007 22:56

how can i convince dp to have a vasectomy???

i dont know why, but something about the coil i just dont like. plus the risk of heavy bleeding i cant face.

why is it always the woman who has to deal with birth control? its not fair at all!!

I have a diaphragm. It's good stuff.

Most of the time, we use withdrawal because we're not so fertile.

I can't do hormones. I'm too old for the combined Pill, with a strong paternal family history of hypertension and heart attack. Can't do progesten-only because of horrific side effects.

Don't fancy the non-hormonal coil.

I can't say I find it a good idea to 'convince' a partner to have a permanent sterilisation procedure, because I know how I'D feel if my partner nagged me about it.

And I think if I felt that strongly about never having another child, then I'd have myself sterilised.

twentypence · 19/04/2007 23:06

I have a coil and it's honestly been no problems apart from having to pay $100 for it to be fitted.

Periods are the same, and I have no period pain now I don't eat gluten and exercise regularly (so it was that which caused it - not my contraceptive).

You could try it (presuming you would get it free in UK) and then if it doesn't suit you it is fuel for the vasectomy fire.

My mum was full of tales of woe - but it is brilliant been in almost 2 years now.

juicychops · 19/04/2007 23:07

Yeah i suppose. He has said he would consider it if he found out about it.

how about the implant? has anyone have experience of that? is that less hormones than the combined pill? ive got to go now so il read all posts in the morning

thanks everyone

What about mirena coil - periods stop with that I think and less hormone/can't forget.

expatinscotland · 19/04/2007 23:09

The implant and the Mirena coil are both progesten-based.

stitch · 19/04/2007 23:10

abstinence
