She has suddenly out of the blue started to bite her nails, all of them. I am keeping them short (very short) and she bites into her nail bed a little, but not enough to bleed. Neither me DH, our family or anyone in our family bite our nails, and i am just looking for some tips to try and help her stop.

mmm
think it's hard to 'make' them stop at this age - my 5 year old started biting at about 3ish I think? and still bites , sometimes enough to bleed too ( ouch!) dh and I aren't nailbiters either...
you can get some nasty stuff to paint on the nails, but not sure that would be suitable for someone so young
so no real help...sorry!

DD1 3.5 started biting hers at xmas - coincided with me giving her sparkly nailvarnish so dont know if i drew attention to them or if it was just a coincidence - anyway, i threatened to buy 'nippy stuff' didnt buy it for a long while then the week i bought it she stopped, all by herself, and she didnt even know id bought it!

I have always been a serial nail biter - I have to work really hard on not doing it, I do hate it...I always find nailpolish makes me worse as I start by picking at it then can't leave it alone. Think it must be a nervous habit .

I actually found having a nail file with me all the time helped, everytime I found myself biting or picking I would file my nails gently instead and apply one of those cuticle moisturising pens.

Meant to add to that - maybe a suitable diversionary tactic might work with a 2 yr old? Can't think of what though...helpful I know.....

My dd1 used to bite her nails too. Everytime i saw her start nibbling at them i said 'stop biting'. It didnt take too long for her to stop.
Now a few months on its hair chewing.grrr. Annoys me more than the nail biting because her hair goes all crispy and knotty then she moans when i brush it!

And i was told not to use the nasty tasting stuff as it could get on any food they pick up to eat and then cause bad association with that food then tasting horrible!
