Pre School Boosters

Twigletts thread has reminded me to ask about DS1's pre-school boosters. (OK, so he's 5 - I've left them a little late!)

Are the preschool boosters always Infanrix and mercury free or should I write to say I am not prepared to accept anything else? I am probably going to write anyway since I'm not going to have his MMR booster done at the same time, I'm going to make a separate appointment 3 months or so later.

AFAIK always dtap (as there's a higher risk of side effects with dtwp).

thought I might try my luck here and ask if anyone knows why the booster is at aged 3 in uk but aged 18 months in france - is it because infanrix is less effective and so you need the booster earlier?

no don't think so- timings always vary between countries and are always changing. In the States for example they now do a teenage MMR booster.

apparently in the uk it is recommended to have a minimum of a 3 year gap between the 3rd baby jab and the pre-school booster but our health authority goes for 3.5-4 year gap.....i only know this as dd was due hers and has reacted to every set of jabs so far, but she will be waiting a while longer as she didn't have her 3rd jab till she was 13months old due to being in a hip spica cast from 4 months

DS1 had his booster of DPT (and Polio) on Monday (it was indeed the infanrix DPTaP, I checked!) and the nurse didn't bat an eyelid when I said he would not be having the MMR booster. I didn't even have to give my reasons.

She didn't even comment on the fact that he was over 5 and only just having them
