My 5yr old girl is recovering from her first confirmed urine infection and it is routine at our GPs to refer to hospital for tests to check plumbing is in order. Has anybody any experience of this?

My dd had a UTI when she was 12 months and was also referred for further tests. It turned out she has rhenal reflux, which means some of the urine travels back to her kidneys when she wees. This can cause infections which in turn cause serious kidney damage.
A little boy I know had to be operated at 3 months (he's perfectly well now) as his was quite serious and was born with severely reduced kidney functionality.

The tests she had are probably different from the one syou're going to have because she was so young and couldn't control her bladder. They were not pleasant, but not traumatic either, and we're facing some more to determine if the reflux is gone once she ahs gained full control of her bladder. She has been on antibiotics since she was diagnosed (she's now 3)but she's perfectly fine and I'm quite confident she won't need surgery as she hasn't had any more infections.

Hope this info helps, good luck everyone!!
