Eczema around eyes - what can I put on it?

I've had a bit of eczema around my eyes for a couple of weeks, it's quite itchy and a bit red and I'd really like to get rid of it. My doc prescribed some mild steroid cream which worked but it came back when I stopped it, and I know it's not good for the thin skin around eyes anyway. Anyone know of anything effective - homeopathic, herbal or whatever?

I have often used a natural beeswax/honey ointment which my mum buys from a honey farm in northumberland... think it is Chain Bridge Honey Farm - you could google it - not sure if they mail order... will check...

Yes they do... chainbridgehoney.co.uk

Thanks Muppet, I've just had a look and it sounds great. I'm allergic to some honey though (depends on the flower it comes from), so I'll email them and see if it is suitable. I like the look of their baby balm too.
Thanks for the tip.

I used to have awful eczema (which has totally gone now) and I used to use a cream by Elena something or other. If you search on google for Elena eczema she comes up as the first entry.

Her cream I found to be very good indeed and I recommend it. I too had eczema round my eyes, and I used to put hydrocortisone on it sometimes but not every day. Then I used Elena's cream and it seemed to keep it at bay to a degree.

I got rid of my huge amounts of eczema by using evening primrose oil, by the way - orally not on the skin. It was prescribed by the doctor since I had to take something like 10 tablets a day. It worked though and I don't take the tablets anymore either. I was totally covered in eczema - legs, arms, face, body - nipples (ouch).

Gosh figroll you've made me wonder if it was stopping taking my fish oil supplement that caused it to flare up in the first place - better go out and get some more, just in case! Or EPO, I had no idea that was good for eczema.

Elena Eureka cream sounds great, expensive though! Will try it if I can't shift it by cheaper means. Thanks for the tip.

Pruni - never thought of trying Vaseline, isn't it a bit heavy for eyes? I'll give it a go tonight anyway, cos I look grim

Thanks all.

I get it and use vaseline too-although sometimes have to resort to the mild steroid ointment I was prescribed when it gets really bad.
