Getting BP Down...

Hi,
My mum has really high BP and is on tablets etc. but don't know if I can help her change her lifestyle to help. She drinks benecol now, and I have told her to cut down on alchohol (she is a big wine drinker). Should she cut it out completely? Does that help? Anything else she can take or do? She does walk the dogs everyday, is pretty active gardening etc. and goes to the gym, but she is still overweight.
thanks x

My mom was treated for high BP and she also had gallstones so she had to have a bit of a lifestyle change, although it wasn't too bad to begin with. She eats a very low fat diet, nothing with more than 5%saturated i think. She has Benecol spread on her toast etc and has the Priobotic drinks, lots of fruit and organic veg and oily fish. She also gardens when she has chance and walks to work several days a week.Doing this enabled her to come off her BP meds and helped her gallbladder, also my dad was on the verge of being put on BP meds and also changed his diet etc and has lowered his BP.
It sound like your mum is doing all the right things ,not too sure on the wine front as i don't drink but i know my parents do have the od tipple,i suppose it is everything in moderation really.

Hiya - she does do things to help but it's really high, she is on medication for it and I think she said something about having an injection the other day for it? Verge of stroke high.

She needs to cut right back on salt - not add it to anything, and not eat high salt foods (baked beans, bacon etc). Reducing alcohol and losing weight should also help.
