Pins and needles in my hand for months now, and losing grip of things, what can it be?

I had a blood test done last week that the nurse called an MOT, basically it was testing everything from kidney and liver function to colesteral, I have been called to go to the doctors because they have found something, so now I am wondering what the hell could be going on. Any ideas?

I think with carpal tunnel you don't get the pins and needles in your little finger - although my GP didn't know that when I saw him and he thought it might be carpel. I told him it wasn't carpel tunnel as the median nerve doesn't go near the little finger. Ha ha.

My GP loves me - not!

So if you have pins and needles there then thats the only way I know of to know it ain't carpel tunnel.

It is my little finger and my ring finger and all down that side of my hand/palm that has the pins and needles. Worse in my little finger.

I've had the same thing going on for over a year, and they still don't know whats wrong. Consultant has said I have weak wrists. I think that diagnosis is crap. My symptoms always flare up before and during my period.

NatalieJane · 20/04/2007 17:56

It is always there, and I haven't had a period since I had DS2 in December (I am BF), do you sleep on that side?

NJ is it your 'mouse' hand?

I had an odd sensation in my right hand, with a twitchy finger to boot, which went away when the puter went on strike for a month. As soon as the puter was fixed, my hand started playing up again.

This left me with the choice of the internet or the health of my hand.

Guess what I chose.

NatalieJane · 20/04/2007 18:20

Nope, I use my right hand for my mouse, I did think it was because of how I led at night to BF DS2 (on my left side), so a fortnight ago we moved the pillows to the other end of the bed so I lay on my right side now and it is no better, if anything getting slighty worse as time goes on (not the pins and needles but the losing grip).

my doc told me not to bother with physio as I would undo the good, by picking up and carrying the lo's around? It comes and goes in both hands, it is more severe in the left hand but I have a cyst there as well. Moving to S'pore next month and will have private health cover, I will see what they come up with

NJ CTS is not in little finger or the right half of your ring finger, as stripey says, ie it is when you get pins and needles in thumbe, forefinger and middle finger.

What is it that affects ring and little finger then???

NatalieJane · 21/04/2007 11:39

No idea Clary, I guess I'll just have to wait for this appointment to come through.

Surely if it was a posture thing, other things would be affected, neck or shoulders lower back etc.? I am inclined to agree with you Cod about the catch all safety net.

Trapped ulnar nerve affects little finger and other fingers.

strongteabag · 23/04/2007 14:36

NatalieJane, I get this and it is alarming. After each DC I have had a flare up of this, usually when i am starting to cut down breastfeeds due to weaning etc. We put it down to hormones, it soon settled down. Perhaps it is rheumatism, if your joints are irritable then swelling can compress nerves.

NatalieJane · 23/04/2007 17:37

I'm not cutting down breast feeding, and didn't have it after DS1, also no swelling (though I did swell up like crazy towards the end of the pregnancy...? Don't know if that counts!)

I suppose all I can do is wait for the appointment to come through, though thanks to the the doctor saying he thinks the neurologist will say the same as him (basically nothing) I'm not holding out much hope TBH.
