Getting paranoid about gum recession

The gum above one of my front teeth seems to be going up and it feels sore. I showed the dentist when I went 2 weeks ago and he said I was probably brushing too hard. He doesn't think it is a gum disease issue but could be be wrong?

About a month before I had already switched to a soft brush and reduced the brushing to twice a day and added a mouth wash - Cosodyl non alcohol (at midday) but it seems to be getting worse.

I can't floss my front teeth due to having a fixed retainer on the back of them but I use the little brushes between. The dentist didn't think the fixed retainer was an issue but I am worried this might be stopping me cleaning properly especially as when I saw the hygienist about 6 months ago she seemed quite vigorous and I felt she knocked some of the fixative (or whatever they use to stick in on) off.

Am really worried about it but I am wondering now I have noticed whether I am getting paranoid about it or if it is really getting worse. Anyone experienced the same? I keep thinking of worse case scenario where I lose my front teeth and need to wear false ones!

I had my first filling this year (early 40s) in a wisdom tooth so generally I haven't had too many tooth issues.

I can sympathise. I have had a bridge/crowns on my front teeth for 15 years. Basically the front 4 teeth are false and fixed on to my 2 filed down front teeth. It looks fine and has lasted but I have to be very careful with cleaning. I have to floss all around it daily. I also use corsadyl daily (no alcohol). I also worry about gaps from loss of fixative. There might me something to the overbrushing. I’ve had that problem before. Give that area 24 hours with just mouthwash rather than brushing. Also you could try Gingigel. Other than that get a second opinion. Try a different Dentist.

Thanks for the advice Orange! Sometimes I think it would be easier to be like my grandparents who had all teeth out and falsies in for their wedding!!! I do find the corsodyl stings a bit so maybe I should try gingigel instead. My dentist is the only one I have seen more than twice but I am losing confidence in the surgery as they don't seem to take any responsibility as the next time you end up seeing someone else. Maybe I should go private but am afraid of the costs if I need a lot of treatment in the future.
