It can be quite common as the temp rises naturally during the day and evening until about midnight - 2am - these are the "hottest" times anyway. If it's bothering her I would just give calpol at bedtime. If it doesn't bother mine I tend to leave them to sleep it off- depends how poorly they are with it.

Yorkiegirl - Is she awake when you take her temp? If not, just leave her. A temperature is the body's natural immune system kicking in. If she is OK during the day then ignore it. She will get better on her own. As has already been posted, temperatures tend to be higher at night nayway. HTH.

If she wakes coughing then give her a drink of water. If she feels warm to touch you could give her some Calpol. Cough medicine is actually probably ineffectual for a 2 year old. It works more on a psychological basis than physical. Cough mixtures really do not do much unless they have cough suppressant in them which many do not. Adults think it is helping them wheras a 2 year old does not have the same thoughts IYSWIM? If she doesn't have a temp during the day then it means it is a simple cold which will get better on it's own. Hope she improves soon.

Meant to say thatif she is still unwell after a week then she should be reviewed by the GP.

my son only 13 months, so thats why it probably works

You only need to really worry about high temps if you have a child who is prone to seizures. Both my ds's run very high temps (41 + usually when ill) but neither has had a seizure. Like mears I see temps as being good as its part of the defence system. So I only give calpol if they actually are feeling awful as well. DS1 only gets given it when really ill as he has such bad side effects from it (from the sweetners and colours). If she is sleeping through it I wouldn't worry, but if she wakes then some calpol will make her feel more comfortable.
