dry hoarse throat, feels as tho something is stuck in it.
thirsty
dry skin and hair
exhausted most of the time - can fall asleep anywhere
mood swings
forgetfulness
cravings for sweet stuff and carbs
almost always cold, even in summer
sometimes I have trouble holding my wee and really have to run!
aching joints
throat closes up when i sleep and it wakes me up cos I can't breathe
feel like a zombie most of the time
facial hair
depressed/tearful/miserable/grumpy
twitchy eye sometimes

I've had all this for as long as i can remember, and just recently wrote it all down. I'm sure there's a connection but i just donno what it can be.. I know you guys are a fountain of knowledge so I figured this would be the best place to ask :D

Perhaps you should print this off and take it with you. I hope you feel better soon.

SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 18/04/2007 15:31

Thanks, think I need it

I'm going to take the list with me, lol. Just my appointment isn't til next monday and I wondered if anyone here would have any ideas

Doesn't sound good, Sugar. You can't keep ignoring these symptoms. I take it you've had a check for diabetes? You could also do a little google research on pernicious anaemia as some of the symptoms seem similar. I agree with hellobello ... take the list with you when you go to the GP - as soon as possible.
Good luck, and keep us posted.

I would ask for a thyroid blood test. I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid 13 years ago and had many of your symptoms.

SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 18/04/2007 15:49

thanks dumbymumby.. no i've not had tests for anything the only thing that's certain is that I have PCOS and lymphodema, and while some of the symptoms relate to those, some of them don't. I'll google what you suggested, thanks

SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 18/04/2007 15:52

hiya IOHW, thanks for that too.. gona be busy with the google today, lol

how are things with you girlie?

Ifonlyhewould · 18/04/2007 15:57

Oh i'm bearing up Sugar, thanks for asking. Just plodding along, in my own little world.

Yes, definately google thyroid. Im on medication but am still always cold. I'm the one wearing a cardigan in the height of summer. Before diagnosis i also suffered from constipation, heavy periods, hoarse voice, absolutely shattered all the time, bit of weight gain and i felt like i had a lump in my throat. Its not pleasant but its ok when you get meds sorted.

SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 18/04/2007 16:03

yup, thats me too.. even today I've got a thick sweatshirt on

earlier i was sat here with a blanket round my shoulders too, and there's a turned on radiator like 2 feet away from me, lol

is your fund/plans all growing to fruition? do you have a timescale of any sort yet?

OP posts:
Ifonlyhewould · 18/04/2007 16:09

It's growing... slowly! But it's growing No ive no time limit on things as yet. At the moment all is calm, im keeping myself to myself and to be honest i'm having quite a good time. Im quite happy and content. If things could only stay this way ahhhhhhh!

Ifonlyhewould · 18/04/2007 16:10

Mind you, I am taking AD's too which are helping. I wish I had tried them years ago! Thyroid also causes depression, low mood, mood swings. I get all that too.

SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 18/04/2007 16:11

lol, i just had peep at your thread.. I see now why your fund is growing slowly, lmfao

Good on ya girlie.. I found it hilarious that he's trying to cop an eyeful without you noticing too, bless him. He'll realise what he's losing when it's too late and then he can spend the rest of his life kicking himself

OP posts:
SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 18/04/2007 16:13

I've had ADs for years, sometimes they help, sometimes they dont, I've got so much going on, b/f is just one small part in the car crash we laughingly call my life.

but that list of symptoms, I've had for as long as I can remember.. even when i was a kid.. never thought to try and connect them to anything before now tho, I just thought I was creaky before my time, lol

OP posts:
Ifonlyhewould · 18/04/2007 16:29

I keep catching him having a gaze at me when he thinks i'm not looking, not at the boobies but just at me in general, like he is thinking things over.

I had my symptoms for years too, the doctors kept fobbing me off, telling me it was depression and more or less calling me a hypochondriac. My body was on almost shut down before they did the blood tests. Don't let your GP fob you off. Theres no harm in having a blood test just to be on the safe side.

My skin and hair were very dry too, wouldn't grow either.

3littlefrogs · 18/04/2007 16:37

Thyroid - definitely ask for thyroid function tests - your symptoms sound classic.

SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 18/04/2007 17:57

thanks 3littlefrogs, that's the conclusion I'm reaching too.. is it difficult to get gps to take it seriously or are they more reasonable these days?

OP posts:
3littlefrogs · 18/04/2007 17:58

Depends on the GP TBH. How do you get on with yours?

SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 18/04/2007 18:00

really well usually.. depends what sort of mood he's in he can be really lovely and keep you chatting for ages or act like a pig and throw you out in seconds :/

I guess I'll just have to hope for the best on monday :/

OP posts:
colditz · 18/04/2007 18:00

Thyroid - ask for thyrouid function test

3littlefrogs · 18/04/2007 18:04

You have to be a bit careful depending on the personality IME. Sometimes it is better just to go with a list of symptoms, but NOT suggest a diagnosis - some doctors hate it when patients suggest a diagnosis. Others are more relaxed and don't mind. It can be a bit of a minefield. In any case I could be completely wrong - diagnosing anything via computer or phone is really not a good idea - much better if doctor takes a proper history and examines you. Good luck.

SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 24/04/2007 09:31

well, my gp was lovely!!! he looked at the piece of paper in my hand and looked at me, smiled, took the list and straightaway mentioned thyroid tests, and some others too.. he's pretty much ticked every box on the blood test form so I'm gonna go and have those done today.

Thanks all you clever MN'ers.. I wouldn't have had the guts to ask him otherwise

OP posts:
3littlefrogs · 24/04/2007 09:49

Good luck - let us know how you get on. Apologies in advance if this posts twice - computer behaving strangely.

Ifonlyhewould · 24/04/2007 10:04

Thats good news Sugar. Yes, make sure you let us know how you get on meanwhile, keep warm!!

SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 27/04/2007 22:04

hmmm I'm a little perplexed now.. everything came back normal

Not sure what to do now.. at least if somethng had been found there would have been a reason for all those symptoms.. now I feel like a hypochondriac

Got an apptment with GP on the 8th may so I guess I'll just have to wait and see what he says

OP posts:
SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 08/05/2007 18:59

I've now seen my gp.. all tests came back normal and he thinks all my symptoms could be down to depression so he's put me on 40mg of citalopram, given me a thing for more blood tests, patted me on the head and asked to see me in july

oh, and he was all shocked cos my cholesterol is really low.. pfft

I dunno what to do now.. I KNOW sometings not right but he's a bit dismmissive cos nothng showed up in the blood tests

OP posts:
Kif · 08/05/2007 19:09
