Losty, not affected by this personally but was at university with one of the haemophiliacs who died of AIDS contracted from contaminated blood
Thinking of everyone affected by this dreadful fiasco

losty · 18/04/2007 19:40

oh Marina I am sorry to hear that. It is awful isnt it?

OP posts:
bundle · 18/04/2007 19:43

losty, I'm not affected by this but once did some interviews at a London hospital years back, which didn't offer under-10s recombinant factor 8. After my programme was broadcast they changed their minds...so one small victory there.

Anyone affected by this has my total support and sympathy

edam · 18/04/2007 19:45

Hi losty, I'm not affected by this personally but you can't hear those terrible stories without being moved. Hope at least some of the truth emerges from this inquiry.

Fauve · 18/04/2007 19:49

I'm not directly affected, Losty, but I nearly started a thread about it because I was so shocked to hear of it on the news. Previously I had no idea. I'll be thinking of you, and I can certainly also be for you.

BandofMothers · 18/04/2007 19:52

Not affected thank goodness Losty, but so that you are.

((((((hugs)))))))

ChicPea · 18/04/2007 19:56

Watched the Newsnight Scoop and was appalled. Those doctors who knew what they were doing and kept it from the patients is pure manslaughter.

Semi joke: What's the difference between God and a Doctor? Answer: God knows he's not a doctor.

To think that UK patients were receiving blood from inmates from one of the USA's notorious jail where most were infected with Hep C/HIV is just outrageous. The report said that the inmates were paid $2 per donation and they sold it on for $70. The patients's file had written on it 'Aids Study' and the patients didn't even know they were part of a study and/or found out 2-3 years that they were HIV+ AFTER the dr knew. Staggering.

I hope that these families who have suffered receive massive compensation and that the drs are struck off. How dare they?????????????????

Fauve · 18/04/2007 20:06

I heard it first on Radio 4's PM - did they break the story? The bit about patients' files being marked 'Aids Study' is just incredible.

Spamhead · 18/04/2007 20:17

Used to work with the Hemophilia Society and the Birchgrove Group (support group in Cardiff for people with haemophilia and HIV). Some of the stuff on Newsnight has long been suspected by a lot those affected - but until now could have been dismissed as paranoia. Cannot quite believe that some doctors might actually have knowingly allowed people to get infected!

A lot of the guys I knew are no longer around. Those that still are were already pretty angry at how they had been treated by the health system and the government. These findings if true, are going to really, really generate a lot of justified anger.

Spamhead · 18/04/2007 21:10

Losty, hope this is not opening up too many old wounds

losty · 18/04/2007 23:36

shit what a lot of spport. Yes old wounds, btu nice to read some support form tjhose who know at last. I feel so alone abot t all.

Oh babes I really feel for you, my brother has haemophilia. He was a teenager at the time when they realised the risks for haemophiliacs who had recieved blood products, he had had quite a lot of injections around that time, he was clear.

Skribble · 18/04/2007 23:45

Sorry I should say when it became public about the risks, as I agree they well aware for a long time before they admitted it.

losty · 18/04/2007 23:45
