Is there still a prolapse thread?

The only threads I can find are years old and I'm hoping there is something running that's more current.

I have an anterior prolapse, caused no doubt by a prolonged pushing stage during labour. I have never got any medical help, in fact I've never told anybody. My son is 4 now and I am so fed up of dealing with it on my own.

Occasionally I get a heavy dragging feeling from the prolapse but the main problem is the frequent urination, the feeling that I can never properly empty my bladder or I feel a sudden urge to go to the toilet and there is nothing there.

I feel like I can't move on with my life and am scared if I don't seek help it will just get worse.

Thank you, I've requested to join.

I don't know where to start. I know I need to get help, but I don't feel ready to tell anybody.

I don't speak about it in real like either, I really struggle with it but speaking to surgeon its FAR FAR more common thank you . Think 50 % of women. Go to your GP or practice nurse and tell them how afraid you are. I was referred on by my practice nurse after she quickly examined me and I had the operation withing 16 weeks. There are other options too depending on your age but I just wanted the op to get it over with. You really need to have finished having your children as all the work of an op will be undone if you get pregnant again and the second fix is never as good as the first fix and you could be left with problems. I wont lie, the operation is tough , much harder recovery than a hysterectomy and you will be off your feet for a while. There is a physio option too that some women can explore depending on the severity x.

I meant to say after speaking to my surgeon, I realised it's far more common. Glad you have joined the group, if your brave and post, I will watch out for you, some of the info is not relevant as the treatment is different in the US but there are lots of british ladies on there. Set up a spare facebook account if that makes you more comfortable so your aninymous, I did just that!! x

Please go to your GP they honestly will not bat an eyelid. So common. I had one after my first. It was in combination with other damage from my first labour. Referred to gynae and he surgery 6 months post partum. Was not a major op. You might not need surgery. Some women just require Physio. If you don’t think you can say what problem is write it down on piece of paper and give to your GP.

I know it's common, but I just can't make a move at the minute. I would love to try physio, I can self-refer through work but for something like this I might have to see a GP first.

I am single at the minute but would really love to think I will have another child one day so I wouldn't want surgery just yet. My mum had an operation on her bladder and I can remember how hard she found it she was in her 50s, I am early 30s I'm still trying to get my head around dealing with it.

Oh can I please join in.

I had a cystocele and rectocele repair about 6 or 7 years ago now and the gynae said I was the youngest person he'd ever done the op on, that it wouldn't last forever (his surgery) and that he'd be seeing me again down the line.... well they're back. Sad I wet myself whilst out shopping yesterday. Sad Blush I constantly feel like I need a wee very suddenly ad never feel like I've totally emptied my bladder. Also problems with no 2s too.

I found it really hard last time round in terms of all the "legs apart appointments" due to childhood experiences and I am just dreading having to go through it all again. Also was hard afterwards having to do very little while I healed. The op DID work though at the time.

My gynae I had last time was lovely, but like you I just can't face it all at the moment but know I need to.

Can I ask, what are the privacy settings of the facebook group please?

Lamby80 · 25/11/2017 20:57

Hello. I was on a prolapse thread a out a year ago but I can't remember what it was called. It wasn't long after having my ds and I felt so so low. I did go to see a gyne who was quite dismissive but confirmed I have a mild bladder prolapse and advised weight loss ( needed ) and just carry on as usual but it was reassuring to know I wasn't imagining it. I then went to a physio specialising in women's physio, who spent much more time putting my mind at rest and showes me how to so my pelvic floors correctly. I use an App to help me.
However, in the last few weeks, I have felt it is getting worse so I am scheduled to see my doc next week and am going to ask for a private referral. I will let you know how it goes.
I am not sure how much help that has been but I would say it is very common, yet annoyingly one of those things that is never discussed openly or between friends and it really should be if it is as common as they say!

YourHandInMyHand It is a closed group, so anybody can find it on Facebook but you have to request to join. I think anybody can see members but not posts. I haven't posted yet as I don't know if anybody I know is a member but I can't see anybody stumbling across it by accident.

I'm sorry to hear your prolapse is back. I think being young that is a worry, to have a major op knowing I might have to go through it again.

I have struggled with the sudden urge to go and feeling like I haven't emptied my bladder but just recently I've had the feeling like I couldn't have held it much longer which is a bit scary. I also feel like I am never off the toilet and am self conscious about it especially at work as I feel people think I am going too often.

I also occasionally feel the need to urinate but I can't and it's frustrating and quite painful in a way. I feel like I need to stay on the toilet but nothing will come out.

lamby80 That's very true, I have only ever heard old people talking about it. It feels shameful, which I know is stupid but it's not something I would feel happy talking about.

I would really like to have some physio, it may be wishful thinking but I am hoping to avoid surgery as the idea scares me.
