Ramipril problems

On ramipril 5mg for my high blood pressure.

I've been waking up with a really dry, scratchy throat that water won't soothe - just need to wait for it to go away - since i was on 2.5mg.

Have been on 5mg for a week and just getting the scratchy throat again, along with palpitations since the day I went up from 2.5. I feel like my heart is beating way too hard, can feel it in my whole body.

I know I need to mention it when I go back for a review on the 5th but has anyone else felt the same way? I'm overweight, losing weight. My BP was well down when I saw one nurse six weeks ago on 2.5mg, but when I saw a different nurse last week it was up again. She had to take it manually after many automatic attempts didn't work due to my deep veins and also after I had had a blood test.

I feel like all of that might have raised my BP and now I'm on an unnecessarily high dose. I see her again in two weeks. I think I just need reassurance. Just want this to work.

Sounds like ramipril side effects to me which can be quite serious if you can mention it sooner then do so. Family members have had similar issues and immediately put on alternative BP meds. Good luck!

Scratchy throat plus dry tickly cough are side effects of ramipril. I was on it earlier this year and ended up coughing so hard I thought I was going to vomit. I put up with this for too long (couldn't/wouldn t make time to see a gp)But as soon as I saw someone they switched me to another drug and the cough went away.

Definitely go and see someone

Do mention this to a medic, OP. I have an elderly relative who was on ramipril and had to come off it because of the coughing - it's a well-known side-effect. There are alternatives they could switch you to, as pps have said.
