How to sterilise syringes?

Dalesgirl16 · 16/11/2017 20:38

Please advise! My baby takes medication and we have been keeping her syringe and stopper sterile in the cold water steriliser but she is now one and we can stop using the steriliser.

What can I use to keep sterile syringe now? If I put in a Tupperware lunch box or something , the tablet can’t be divided down to such a small portion IYSWIM?

Does it need to be sterilised? I just wash them through

welshweasel · 16/11/2017 20:40

No need to sterilise. Just wash with hot soapy water.

I throw in dishwasher from time to time!

We just used the dishwasher
Use a new one every few days/week - get from the hospital or you can buy from a pharmacy

Rainbowandraindrops67 · 16/11/2017 20:50

Make sure you take stopper right out to wash though

Sirzy · 16/11/2017 20:51

For amounts under 5ml I prefer the calpol syringes as they are much easier to clean!

PurplePillowCase · 16/11/2017 20:52

no need to sterilise
take apart and wash with soapy water. rinse well and air dry. (or just take apart and put in cuttlery basket of dishwasher,

Rainbowandraindrops67 · 16/11/2017 20:53

Sirzy not so accurate to measure dose though if you are giving 1.8ml or whatnot!

Sirzy · 16/11/2017 20:55

Ahh yes when we have that type thankfully pharmacists normally mark exactly. His daily meds are 2.5 or 5 so they work fine.

Goldmandra · 16/11/2017 20:57

You don't need to sterilise a syringe. Take it apart, wash it in hot soapy water and air dry.

Dalesgirl16 · 17/11/2017 09:56

Thank you. I thought we had to keep them sterile.
