well, I always suspected that dd was lactose intolerant. she doesn't seem to be now, but at 2 had very frequent mild diahrrea and tummy aches. I have read that it can exacerbate eczema too, but there are a million things that can do that.

why what are the symptoms?

am taking ds2 to dr anyway 2mo. he has a horrible horrible nappy rash that looks like big blisters have burst and they bleed when i change him . we have been back and to to HV about his issues with pooing. he has never ever had a properly formed poo, and he either holds it in or really strains to get it out. been goven shitty advice about it (give him ore fruit and veg, give him lactulose,he will outgrow it etc...) anyway, MIL saw this rash and said that that is how DPs lactose intolerance started. Got me thinking and it sems to make sense. obviously i need a proper opinion and am ringing 1st thing for an appt at GP but wanting to see what i could glean from MN!

Excema (sp?) is linked with dairy intolerance, do you think it might be some form of excema on his bottem?

SenoraPostrophe · 16/04/2007 21:41

well, it's worth a try. sounds a lot like dd, and she did grow out of it, although I still have to cut out milk when she's ill. She didn't have the nappy rash constantly, but I had to be super vigilant on the changing nappy front. The weeping is unfortunatley normal for really bad nappy rash though. are you using sudacrem on it?

MerlinsBeard · 16/04/2007 21:45

sudocrem doesn't touch it, he just bleeds thru it. tbh i would be happier if it was just a bad nappy rash, altho i think i am probably looking for a label for all his 'things' so they tie in. He had horrible skin when he was born, his entire top layer of skin peeled off, altho has been fine since. there is eczema and allergies on both sides.

bless him. I've just finished a nasty episode of nappy rash with ds2 after a tummy bug. It's horrible.

Wuppertal · 16/04/2007 22:16

DS had the classic lactose intolerance when he was a baby (until 4 months old) but has now outgrown it.
Is your DS2 on cow's milk?
(Re: nappy rash I found Metanium was the best remedy, after trying a whole load of others...)

MerlinsBeard · 16/04/2007 22:32

yeah he has cows milk usually whole milk - he is 2. doesn't eat muchcheese but a fair bit of cheese spread, lots of yoghurts, and recently lots of chocolate (it being easter and all)

I know of some babies who had trouble (ie diorrhea) when they did the switch from formula/follow on milk to cow's milk hence my question.
However if he's "enjoyed" easter maybe he's overloaded his digestive system and it'll take a little while to get back to normal?
(I take it he's been ok with milk up to now?)

MerlinsBeard · 17/04/2007 10:13

hes always been a none poo-er and comes out in this rash a lot. Been fobbed off and told its constipation (even though his poo is soft) and that its just nappy rash and that he has stool retention. No bloody appointments today either
