Petition to remove NHS prescription charges for adult sufferers of Cystic Fibrosis

This petition is to remove prescription charges for adults with cystic fibrosis:

petitions.pm.gov.uk/Cystic-Fibrosis

Currently sufferers of a range of permanent conditions (e.g. hypothyroidism) get free prescriptions for life (for everything, not just for that condition). But sufferers of other conditions (including cystic fibrosis) don't, and have to pay for their prescriptions.

I am dubious about the actual value of those petitions.pm.gov.uk petitions, but this one is at least worth some attention.

I am stunned tbh. I did not think for a second that people with such conditions would have to pay. CF is definitely permanent.
It is outrageous

lemonaid · 16/04/2007 20:33

I think it's partly historical accident in that not all that long ago CF sufferers weren't expected to survive very far into adulthood. But it wouldn't be hard to correct the oversight now.

Come along, public-spirited MNers...

done.

cant belive they have to pay. Peter currnetly has hypothyroidism, but that is suspected to be because of his other medications. i have no idea if he will need to pay for his post transplant drugs afterwards.

misdee · 16/04/2007 20:57

oh dh has said he will have to pay.

Beauregard · 16/04/2007 20:57

Done

Marina · 16/04/2007 20:59

Signed,
This will be our neighbour next year when he turns 18. What a disgrace they have to pay

Glassofwine · 16/04/2007 21:00

I have hypothyroidism and was stunned to find once I was diagnosed that I don't have to pay for any prescriptions, ever. Although I personally benefit from this I would feel happier paying, in fact I was at the Chemist today to collect my thyroxine today and said exactly that. I'm not particularly well off, a normal family struggling to get by, but I just don't think that it's fair. So, yes, I'll sign.

Done. Shocking that people should have to pay for prescriptions with permanent conditions.

A final bump for the evening...

I've done it, people with Crohns disease and colitus (like DH) have the same problem, lifelong condition but have to pay. Shocking

noddyholder · 16/04/2007 22:28

I have secondary addisons and don't have to pay I only found this out recently though and before that was paying a fortune for my transplant drugs

lemonaid · 16/04/2007 22:48

I think there's scope for an overall overhaul of the regulations, really. Parkinson's is another condition that doesn't qualify.

bump.

fannyannie · 17/04/2007 09:49

it's appalling isn't it - my mum has Osteo-arthritis, Parkinsons and High Blood Pressure.........so if you picked her up and shook her she'd rattle. But has to pay for all her drugs too -

lemonaid · 18/04/2007 08:08

A bump for the morning crowd...
