Teeth clenching

Totally subconscious but when I wake up my teeth realllly ache. Bit scared I've worn away some enamel. I can't afford a guard right now, they're several hundreds. Any ideas? I'm not even stressed.

This might sound like a weird question, but do you have threadworms? There is a connection between teeth clenching/grinding and having threadworms.

Just a thought.

Seriously? Hmm No I don't!

My husband does this. He had a specially-made guard, but when it broke and he didn’t want to shell out for another, he got a rugby gum shield. You can pour hot water on and melt them to fit a bit better. Just a thought!

Custom night guards cost hundreds but there are off the shelf options that are much cheaper, $20 or so on amazon or eBay. Google “bruxism guard” you’ll find it. 3M is a reputable manufacturer but there are others.

I use a Sleepright guard, they are £50 ish.

£25 here.

Has been a few years since I bought one.

My dentist made my guard as a private patient. It was £100 and my teeth have not been as achey since I have been using it.

Have you recently started taking any new medication?

I've found Sertraline has caused some awful teeth clenching for me

HeyMacWey · 12/11/2017 10:26

Do you have an overbite?

I've discovered that my overbite is the cause of my teeth clenching/light grinding.

TarquinsMama · 12/11/2017 10:33

Are you taking any medication? Just asking as I have the same thing, and it's definitely related to my anti-depressants (Sertraline) as it gets worse when I'm on a higher dose. Magnesium supplements help as they're a muscle relaxant.

user71017 · 12/11/2017 10:37

No im not on any meds. I'll try magnesium. Thanks
