DH may have colon cancer

Since June, he has been ill. It was thought to be related to his gastro and acid reflux problems; however he had an endoscopy and PH test as well as ultrasounds and they found nothing wrong. He was still having symptoms - lost over 3 stone in weight, stomach/chest pains, tenderness in his abdomen - so he was sent for a CT. Today his results showed a mass in his colon. He has been referred for an urgent colonoscopy and further blood tests.

I know I shouldn't google but I found a piece of literature stating that of all masses found in the colon, 90% are malignant. Please talk me down and tell me the reality of all this. It has been a really bad year for us both; and this is just the worst news we could have had.

Wishing him the very best of luck.

Thank you for your thoughts. I'm still waiting and it's been 2 hours now. Am panicking that something is really wrong.

It's probably just delays. It's not easy just sitting. You're a great support to him mammabear

I have 'Ring of fire' in my head all today Smile

OP, are you quite sure you are waiting in the right place? I have a nightmare memory of waiting for one of my children to come out after a major operation , and it turned out I wasn't near the recovery room - I'd just waited where I'd last seen her.
Good luck.

Lissette · 24/11/2017 16:46

I was waiting in the wrong waiting room in-between breast lump tests. Dh pointed out that people didn't return to the room as I had done. He was right.

2hrs and 15 minutes later he emerged- with good news. Scope showed nothing but healthy bowel - such a relief!

We are slightly concerned that a CT showed a "mass" 2 weeks ago and now there is nothing - they don't just disappear - but we know this is good news. Seeing the consultant on Wednesday so can ask more questions then.

A huge THANK YOU for all the messages of support and kindness. It was good to have this thread to vent and get advice, this is why I love MN. Flowers for all! 💜

I am so so pleased! My dh had a colonoscopy recently and the waiting is terrifying.

I hope the consultant is able to give you more info next week. Smile

AlexaAmbidextra · 25/11/2017 21:16

Mamma. Masses can just disappear. I had an episode four years ago. Excruciating abdominal pain which slowly resolved over two weeks. I also had a palpable mass so you can imagine what I was thinking. Long story short, loads of investigations firstly to ovary, then bowel. CT scan was inconclusive but described the mass as inflammatory, which was good news. They couldn't say for certain but said the mass was either an omental infarction or epiploic appendigitis. Both of which were not serious and self-limiting. By the time I had my follow up appointment the mass had gone. As the consultant said, 'cancer doesn't just disappear'.

Graceadlerdesigns · 26/11/2017 08:06

That is really interesting Alexa i had no idea that could happen!
