Why must my 16 year old go to the doctor alone -but I have to go to the opticians with him?

If you are 16 - you as a parent cannot even speak to the receptionist at the doctor. My son is boarding and I have to travel to him to be Ruth him when he goes to the opticians - this doesn't make sense ?

If a 16 year old is happy for a parent to go with them to the doctor then it’s fine (if a 40 year old wants to take their parents to the doctors with them it’s ok). I’m not sure about the opticians, is it company policy? Has it got something to do with most 16 year olds not having the ability to pay for glasses/ contacts?

I booked my dd an opticians appointment for today - she's 14 and the optician and I were checking we'd get there on time. She said if dd had been 16 she'd have been able to attend herself/alone - so perhaps its different companies?

It's Tesco opticians - they said I had to be there for a 16 year old.

What a bizzare post - don’t you WANT to go with him to help him? Isn’t that the type of thing a parent does? And of course you can go to a doctors appointment-there is no he MUST attend alone - anyone can go with anyone to an appointment with their consent
