Scalded face & hands: 2yo in hospital for skin grafts

My friends DD has just had a horrid accident. She's currently out on morphine awaiting surgery. I guess she's going to be in hospital for a long time - anyone who's had toddlers in hospital for long periods - what can I send her for entertainment?

Will report back tonight xx

Oh God how awful!!

Portable DVD player?

Only suggestion as am guessing her hands will be very well bangaged for a good while so she won't have much use of them.

Oh how awful!! I second the portable cd player is an idea, along with music cds and those books on cd for her to listen to.

A cuddely or a doll?

A funky pair of pj's and matching slippers?

Hope she is okay!

can she drink normally?..how about her fave charachter cups with long swirly straws, you know like dora the explorer or barbie, bob the builder type or a sports bottle?
then some milk shake mix for milk or nice fruit juices, smoothies?

some cartoon magazine that mum can show and read to her or story books with activities to do inside?

poor darling

My daughter had a skin graft on the back of her hand because she burnt it on an iron when she was 2. She was in a cast for a week or so, then bandaged for a few moreweeks. She didn't even stay in hospital overnight the day of the operation.

She got heavily into puzzles during that time, but she did have one hand free (she burnt her left hand and she is left handed)It depends how much her hands have been affected.

I know its a little bit in the future but anything that makes the child use her hand once the bandage is off would be good to buy her as a later present. We were recommended playdoh by the hospital as the kneading of the playdoh keeps the scars supple.

Hope she is gets better soon

Can I suggest though, if you are taking a dvd player in for her, if you get her a new one still in the box (can get them quite cheap) it will be P.A.T tested quicker than if it is an old one. (Should be tested before it can be used on the ward/room.

Hope the poor little mite is ok. How old is she?

Thanks for these - some very good ideas that I can organise (v. interesting about the playdoh). I've lots of freebie CDs/DVDs that my friends/relations have collected from the newspapers that we could send her too.

I haven't heard any further news yet today - didn't really expect to. From what they told us yesterday, it sounds quite serious, the scalding was so severe that her skin just fell off immediately. It is both hands, one side of her face and some lesser damage to body. She's only 2yo. So awful for them all.
