Is it possible to damage your breast by massaging a blocked duct too vigorously?

I had a blocked duct a couple of weeks ago and managed to clear it within a day or two by massaging / feeding etc. But I can still feel something in that segment of the breast, right at the top near my chest. It's not very much, but I'm sure it wasn't there before. Could it be related to the blocked duct?

Hi there, I'm not an expert, just a mum who BF two children a few years ago, but I don't like seeing unanswered posts like this one.

I don't think you could have damaged your breast because the pain of a blocked duct automatically makes you be as sensitive as possible in the massaging etc. Blocked ducts can take a while to clear and it's really important to keep feeding from that breast as that is what will make the milk flow.

Your GP can tell you by examining you if there's anything else you need to be worried about. Breasts go through lots of changes throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding, but if there's anything unusual in your breasts the normal advice applies - get it checked out!

Good luck!

Thanks for replying Londonmamma. I'm actually hoping that it is damage caused by my massaging - I'd rather that than something more sinister. Anyhow, I'll see my GP this week if it hasn't cleared up soon, just for reassurance. Thanks again

Sorry - I see what you were asking now! My gut feeling is that it is fine but you should get it checked out to reassure yourself.

I am sure you can. I have huge norks and bumped one awkwardly whilst clearing the loft. It hurt and bruised, so I spent a few days rubbing it and found what felt like a lump. Panicked, had it checked and after an ultrasound and a needle biopsy it was diagnosed as 'damaged breast tissue'

Obviously get it checked out, but am sure it is nothing sinister.
