Recently been diagnosed and having a parathyroidectomy soon. Worried and getting cold feet and interested to know other people's experiences of the disease/parathyroidectomy/chosen treatment.

Thanks Skatingmama and 2old2beamum for your positive responses. ChunkyPunky, sorry to hear your boy has to go through that, poor love. At least you know he is being monitored well. Why do they think his complete thyroid has to be removed? I was told the same, it may affect it etc...; it's been chugging along like an old donkey for a while now, hypo/hyper thyroidism, you can visibly see it in the neck but it's never been suggested the whole lot should be removed.

I'm having such severe symptoms and wanted some support. Feel like GP has shut the door on me saying there is nothing they can do to ease symptoms but have done imaging and endocrinology referrals so I guess I have to wait months

@Cindefuckingrella I had the op in early 2017. I had fatigue and weight loss and listlessness as my symptoms plus very high calcium levels. by the time of the operation they were thru the roof as all 4 parathyroids were affected. They took out all 4 put then put back a tiny piece of one, so that I would self-regulate and not need to be medicated for life. It worked very well. I was tired for a couple of weeks but up and about the next day after surgery, walking around. You can't lift or carry anything for a few weeks, my kids did their own laundry and the dishes (result!) and it worked out fine. No problems with them since.

Were your kidneys affected? How did you cope with kids and the symptoms. I have 4 under 10 years old including a baby 11 month
