How can I get a full health MOT without ringing my evil GP's secretary?

I have a few long running health issues that I would like to get checked out but have put off as I don't like trying to book into my GPs! I know that sounds daft , am a typical don't want to bother my gp type but now am quite mad with myself and bulldog type receptionists for not getting an appointment!

So how can I get a long check up, really don't know - like a private GP or something maybe? Or should I just move GPs??

You can get health screenings at private hospitals, but of course you have to pay for those.

SenoraPostrophe · 13/04/2007 22:42

if you have long running issues, why not make an appt specifically about those? because it might be something that wouldn't show up at a general check up.

NeedAnMOT · 13/04/2007 22:43

Are they quite expensive?

tbh if it wasn't a shocking amount I would probably pay as I want to have an appointment where I get chance to discuss everything and the doctor will make time for me.

"Hello I should like to make a double appointment with my GP within the next 2 weeks please"

a double appointment is so that they have enough time

when receptionist asks you what for, say you would prefer to speak directly to the doctor thank you and when could they sort out an appointment for

whomovedmychocolate · 13/04/2007 22:44

£75 is about average for a BUPA check up. But why don't you go to your well woman clinic at the hospital instead?

Twiglett · 13/04/2007 22:45

bupa health checks £460

whomovedmychocolate · 13/04/2007 22:46

Personally though, I'd call the receptionist and say 'that's none of your sodding business' if she asked why. Or tell her you've got something stuck up your arse - her nose.

How come mine was so cheap then. I must have had a skanky cut price one.....

Mind you that was five years ago, but surely that's the full bob martin's rather than the general health check?

Actually you could always apply for health insurance, if you have any past history they ask you to go for a free healthcheck with a private doctor anyway, then you just flinch at the costs and run away.

whomovedmychocolate · 13/04/2007 22:48

What's BV?

Twiglett · 13/04/2007 22:49

Look .. you do not need to tell a receptionist why you want an appointment

be friendly and firm

or get a friend to make the appointment for you

NeedAnMOT · 13/04/2007 22:49

what is a well woman clinic never heard of one?

wmmchoc - pmsl!

Double appointment may be worth a try I guess
