Crohn’s disease

Purely by luck today I have found out I have this. I’m seeing the doctor next week to talk about it but I was hoping fellow sufferers could give me some pointers now about what it means and what I need to do.

Slight update - have seen my GP. She doesn't believe I have Crohn's and is writing to the hospital doctor to ask him what he's on about. She thinks the symptoms could be caused by stress.

How confusing for you. Flowers

It really is but tbh the doctor I saw was awful so I am not holding out any belief in what he thinks. My GP will get to the bottom of it.

MissConductUS I'm not sure that I agree. I was at a GI conference yesterday and there's quite clear evidence that some foods do have a greater impact than others. In fact there are three diet based trials either recruiting or in progress at the moment, where participants eat pre-packed, highly controlled meals for several days. Of course, due to the fact that these are in progress, no-one was willing to disclose what they have excluded at this stage.

A diet as cure will not produce a profit for anyone and will therefore not be big news.

But IMO diet (with genetic susceptibility) is the cause and therefore cure of Crohn’s. I think the answer will lie in something similar to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet.

My daughter was diagnosed with Crohns when she was 20, she is not on any medication now, but still has check up, so don't worry too much

Meant to say shes 52 now, and hasn't had any real problems for years,
Sometimes she has a little , flair up, depending on what she might have eaten, but just takes an Imodium if she has to travel

Update - my GP wrote to the hospital and asked what the doctor was on about and he's replied ignoring the fact he said I had Crohn's and now is saying I have IBS.

Two years of tests and feel I'm getting nowhere as I can't take this doctor seriously given how he was at the appointment and how he's been since.

Frustrating for you. Thanks

Over the past 35 years, my Crohn's has been called (by various doctors, specialists, colonoscopists and surgeons) anorexia nervosa, IBS, and just three years ago, ulcerative colitis, as in "You dont have Crohn's after all, Molly - you actually have anorexia/irritable bowel/ulcerative colitis".

No, I don't. They are fools. It's just Crohn's but I accept I share some of the same symptoms as sufferers of these other conditions.

I hope you have the energy to persevere for your diagnosis and treatment. I just wanted you to know that other people have inconsistencies in diagnosis too! Smile

Hi OP. My DH has crohn's. He has been symptom-free for 17 years (touch wood!). No surgery, no special diet.

ElephantsandTigers · 30/11/2017 20:19

Thank you. I need to get my act together and work things out. I need to get healthier as well as lose weight.
