This evening I noticed a brigt red rash appear on one of her forearms and then in patches on her other arm and her bottom - no where else.

I called nhs direct but was told no-one could speak to me until 2am.

dd is not too bothered by it, she is asleep in the lounge now where i can keep an eye on her. I gave her piriton at 9.30pm. the rash does look less in places but it has moved to other areas.

she ate nothing different today except for haribos from her aunty - she has never had them before - but that was at 1pm and the rash appeared about 8.30pm.

its very strange, not sure what to do, dh is out and i cant bloody drive. should i call a friend and take her to a&e or am i over reacting, she is fast aleep and seems unbothered???

looking at her, she has big dark circles too.

what could this rash be?

Does she have a temperature at all? Is she lethargic or less responsive than normal?

hoolagirl · 12/04/2007 22:15

at nhs.

Have you done the glass test?
Are her fingers and toes cold?

I would take her to A&E if you are worried.

Hilllary · 12/04/2007 22:15

Have you done the glass test???

Put a glass to it and see if the rash dissapears under the glass!!

Has your dc got cold clammy feet and or hands??

Is it eczema(sp?)

Wotzsaname · 12/04/2007 22:17

Did she complain of any of the following before the rash

Pains in her joints and legs
Headache

does she have cold hands and feet?

lovecloud · 12/04/2007 22:17

no temp.

she normally goes to bed at 7pm so she was tired at 8.30pm and now is out for the count so would not be able to tell if she is more tired than normal.

but before she went off she was not itching it or complaining.

Please check if hands and feet are cold, its an early sign of something nasty.

zephyrcat · 12/04/2007 22:18

Sneak in and feel her hands and feet.

Have you changed washing powder or anything or put her in new clothes?

Hilllary · 12/04/2007 22:19

It could be septiacemia, take her to a&e, better to be safe than sorry!!

My dd2 had septiacemia & nearly died

Dont feel silly taking your dc to hospital, its better to go and feel like an idiot than to not go and forever wish you had.

NutterlyUts · 12/04/2007 22:19

Personally, and I know this is probably the last thing you want to do, I would go to A+E and get her checked out, especially if NHS direct weren't contactable.

Wotzsaname · 12/04/2007 22:19

agree with hoolagirl, please check hands and feet

VeniVidiVickiQV · 12/04/2007 22:19

Do the glass test now please.

lovecloud · 12/04/2007 22:19

rash disappears when you stretch skin, we have been out all day and got back very late as sister took wrong turn off on m25 was two hours later than planned she was eating her dinner at 8ish - very hungry little girl and was telling me how tasty it was which is very unlike her so she must of been feeling well. it happened shortly after eating a very bland and plain spag bowl, we made sauce from scratch and she has eaten it many times before???

mrsjohnsimnelcake · 12/04/2007 22:20

press a glass onto it and see if it goes away...
this may help you

Hilllary · 12/04/2007 22:20

Has she cut or grazed herself at all?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 12/04/2007 22:20

glass test, it whitens in most of the area but not completely. could it be nasty even if she seems unbothered.

my family laugh at my fast reaction to a&e they think im over the top but i really dont feel great about this especiallu after speaking to you.

Best to get her checked out. Hope she is ok.

zephyrcat · 12/04/2007 22:24

Lovecloud don't worry about anyone's reactions when it comes to the health of your little one You know what is best for her. I think she prob needs to be seen.

Hilllary · 12/04/2007 22:25

Hmm dark circles around the eyes are connected with intollerances.

Please take her to A&E just to get checked out

bubblicious · 12/04/2007 22:25

If you are that worried, forget NHS Direct, try phoning the DR on call, DH rang them for me on the early hrs of Tuesday morning have to say we didnt even think to ring NHS Direct!
