following on from pelvicfloornomore thread yesterday about night coughing, i thought i better get dd2 checked out, who has had a cough for a few months, worse at night and after exercise.

doc says she is wheezey and her perscribed an inhaler. just a blue one atm, but no doubt will start a brown one soon.

I'm sorry.

BOth me and dp have asthma (his is generally bad and always has been and mine has kept flaring up badly in past few months).

WHen ds was given an inhalor it really upset me. He's not bad, it just sometimes plays up when he had a cold or similar. ITs just such a pain for me and dp as adults (even though mine was never really bad as a child) that it just depresses me that he may have to go through the same. It also makes me feel guilty that we have passed it on to him.

It must be another pressure for you on top of everything else.

Oh misdee.
She may grow out of it. DH and his brother and sister did.
I didn't, but mine is easily managed. Carry blue inhaler in my bag, only need it if I have a cold/cough/very cold air/climb up a hill!. Supposed to take brown one twice a day, but really only do this when I am ill [cheat].

As long as I have my inhaler with me, it has no impact on my day to day at all.

misdee · 12/04/2007 12:54

she isnt bad, definatly not as bad as dd1 who has had since she was a baby, but i so so didnt want this for any of my other girls, as i have seen how much it affects dd1. will keep a close eye on dd3 from now on.

Sucks misdee doesnt it?

DD has a cough today and is a bit wheezy so we wont be going out in case she gets worse. Stuck in on a day like this.

Fingers crossed DD3 will be OK

foxinsocks · 12/04/2007 12:56

I'm sorry misdee. What a pain.

Tigana · 12/04/2007 12:56

crap isn't it. ds has inhalers too (20months) but only needs them when he has a cold or cough.
Irrational guilt.

ejt1764 · 12/04/2007 12:58

misdee - it's upsetting to be sure, but a diagnosis of asthma can be a real help - dd2 will start to feel a lot better and healthier once the inhalers kick in.

Asthma UK are really helpful.

I have adult onset asthma, and when my medication is balanced, I feel just fine!

NuttyMuffins · 12/04/2007 12:59

Misdee, it sucks doesn't it.

Dd2 has more or less grown out of hers now, but then DS was dignosed with it the other week

misdee · 12/04/2007 13:06

totally utterly sucks.

waiting for pharmacy to deliver her inhaler and spacer, and will get her started on it ASAP. would give her dd1 but dont hae a spacer anymore.

the inhlaer arrived about half an hour ago. given her two puffs, no coughing since she has been coughing loads for ages before hand, but not struggling, so didnt suspect asthma initially.
