it is hard if you are friends with your family doctor - is you doctor a man - you can always ask to see a woman doctor to see someone else.

At the end of the day it is embarrassing but your doctor will have seen much more and worse. Phone them and just make an appointment - don't suffer because you are shy.

Oh dear

No great advice but lots of sympathy

I expect you know about eating lots of fruit and veg and wholegrains, drinking lots of water? If your poos are soft it will help a lot.

I think you may well have to overcome your embarrassment - is there not another doctor at the surgery that you could see?

Hi,
I know what you mean. I don't suffer alot, just every few months since having my DS2 16 months ago...am at the moment though! lol

Try having a look on the Anusol website, they have self help advice.
I actually went to my doctor a few days ago, and she didn't look(thankfully) but said to keep it clean and dry, to avoid harsh soaps and talc, and to apply anusol every time I go to the loo.Drink lots of water too. Pushing on the loo just makes it worse. However if my problem persists for more than 2 weeks to go back...oh joy.

Apparently ice can help, but I haven't built up the courage to do that yet lol!

Hope that helps a bit.
I know it's embarrassing, but hey it's life. It's suprising how many people do suffer but are too ashamed to admit it.

I'll watch this thread for tips too!

I would arrange an appointment with a GP with a view to seeing a specialist. Do not put up with this. Persistant piles are a nightmare.

If actually having a poo is really painful (suffered with terrible piles and pain from episiotomy/tear up my bum after DS2 was born) ask for instillagel. You can get it OTC or on prescription. It's a local anaesthetic (usually used for inserting catheters in men) gel and worked wonders for me. I was in pain during and afterwards, and this made things almost painless.
