pfn my ds' only symptom was a persistent nighttime cough (he'd cough all night) and as he was only 12m when it started it took me ages to persuade the gp to try inhalers as we have a similar family history to yours. Once on inhalers he improved brilliantly. He's now 5 and has been off all asthma meds for a year

The cough is as a result of mucus being produced by inflamed lung tissue. Inflamation is a symptom of asthma.

Ask Doc for Singulair. DS was prescribed it about 6 weeks ago and I've not heard him cough since. Having said that the real test will be when he gets a virus.

ds has coughed since little at night, now 5, and got breathless quickly running about at nursery, had his first 'wheezy attack' on hol last year , and then every 2 weeks, so is now on inhalers , and cough gone nearly. He hasn't been bad now for nearly 3 months, so I'm really pleased. If I can get him to go 6 months, they will reduce dose.
He also gets eczema, although that too is a lot better, hardly anything now, and a hayfever reaction - face swelling. So it does all seem related.
