Diarrhoea in 4.10year old - should I be worried? GRAPHIC DETAILS, NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH!

DD1 has developed diarrhoea over the past few days. I don't know exactly when it started as she has also become much more defensive of her privacy lately, and has been known to poo without calling for help.

Anyway, she is perfectly well in herself - no temperature, she has loads of energy, she's bright, cheerful and still has an appetite.

Certainly for the last 2 days, her stools have been either soft or quite runny. Some of the runny stools seem to be a little mucousy (but no more than mine are when I get a sore tummy), but there's no blood.

Today, I have been limiting her diet to soup, lemonade, jelly, white toast, banana and rice. I did give her soup yesterday, but it did have some vegetables in it

So on the basis that, apart from the diarrhoea she is absolutely normal, should I be worried?

BP. personally i wouldnt be worried yet. Continue to restrict her diet. I recommend Bananas, Rice Cakes, Apples, Toast or Bread, Water,

No milk or dairy. If after another 2 days nothing has improved then go to GP.

My DD has had runny poo for a couple of days following a sickness bug. It can take a week or so for things to settle down.

As long as she is happy, feeling well in herself, has no temp etc try not to worry.

P.S. i have no medical training so please no-one jump on my if this contradicts any official advice Its what I do with my family and it seems to work.

BP, when ds1 had a bad bout of diarrhoea I was told NOT to starve him, just feed him bland foods, nothing too fibrous and plenty of fluids. sometimes I think kids just pick up a bit of a bug and the best thing is just to let it work its way through, especially if she's not 'ill' as such.

Make sure she is keeping her electrolytes up with pedialyte or something similar.

And Ta Oli and Jabber! Doc says not to worry, that they'll only be concernced if this continues for a month! Still have to take a stool sample, though. (ick)
