We moved end Feb and both dd and I had appointments outstanding, the last of which was just over 2 weeks ago. Since then I had a bad cold, end of term, went away for a week plus bank holidays so haven't managed to visit the new surgery to register yet.

ds has had ear ache since Saturday (flew on Friday, has congested nose and very tired, lacklustre) so after an abortive visit to the Walk In last night (2 hour wait expected) phoned gp today. We got an appointment but only begrudgingy so, as we are now out of catchment and should have already registered elsewhere, and he is a temporary patient for today only.

When I notified them of our new address they said they'd give us a month or so before returning our records but that would be up around now I suppose. I'm sure they have to do their job to make room for new patients and I wouldn't have troubled them but for the fact the Walk In wasn't helpful and we're only talking a few miles away. Just all seems a bit hasty

most surgeries publish their "catchment" area and are there to provide a service for local people. surely it would be much easier for you to have a GP nearer to where you live now. I got the forms before we even moved and dropped them in a few days after we arrived.

We moved a few miles five years ago and I didn't change docs! We hardly ever use the surgery and we might move back at some point so I just haven't bothered. When I have gone there the receptionist says 'you should register with another GP and I say 'yes, OK', then don't, despite my good intentions.

Oh we intended to transfer but as it is only 2 weeks (including bank hols) since my final appointment just hadn't done it yet. We asked for recommendations in the meantime as there is no dr in our village so have to drive a few miles either way in any case. We were in and out in 2 minutes, just to rule out an ear infection, nurse at Walk In didn't even look in his ears.

Note to self: locate NHS cards and visit gp !
