She's 4 months and vomitting loads. Just been sick for the 4th time in 5 hours and she is absolutely soaked again. It's not straight after a bottle so knows it's not, last bottle was at 7p.m - she was just sick so loud it woke me up.

Have tried giving her diaralyte but she just heaves instantly and her tummy is making horrendous churning noises - really worried about dehydration

Sorry, probably too late to advise on A&E - try keeping her hydrated by helping her to suck icelollies or very diluted fruit squash on a teaspoon. Tiny tiny amounts. Also try and note when she wees - if it is going though then something is getting in which is good. If she gets dopey or has a sunken fontanelle then you must take her to A&E as this would indicate dehydration.

Hope everything is ok.

Foghornleghorn, any news from last night?

FoghornLeghorn · 12/04/2007 07:54

Hi all, just to let you know we are now home.
DD was admitted at about 3a.m on Wednesday, she was degydrated with a high temp. fotunately we were lucky enough to solve things with persisting the the dialarylte every hour, so she didn't have to have any tubes or drips which was what they wanted to do.

Still cannot hold any milk down but is keeping diaralyte down well now so we went discharged with open access for a few days incase she milk feeding doesn't pick up or her temp rockets again.

Just about to try her on 40ml milk now so we;ll see how it all goes.

Thanks

was thinking about you - so glad to read that things have picked up and quite quickly too. Hope you are feeling okay - these stressful things are horrible aren't they, really take it out of you.

Congrats on your fab maternal instincts.

Let us know how you go.

She has managed to keep down 9oz of milk so far today and alot of diarlyte and she seems perkier in herself. Still very sleepy and is struggling with her 2oz of milk at all, it's really taken it out of her.
Doctor diagnosed as Viral Gastroentoritis (sp?).

She is having little cat naps, will only sleep with someone giving her a hug at the minute, as soon as I try and move her she wakes up and cries.

Lots of wee's today and 1 poo, which was very loose but not as bas as yesterday

Glad your LO is on the mend Foghorn

Feeling much better about it all now. At one point yesterday she was vomitting, diarrhea (sp?) and had a temp of 38.5. Over the course of 8 hours, had 2 doses of paracetamol but temp didn't budge so was getting pretty worried at that point.
Finally went down to 37.6 and the vomitting stopped so they allowed us home late last night.
Was so glad to be home and in my own bed last night, even with waking DD up every hour for diaralyte. I don't know how other parents manage if they are in for a long time, it just saps all the energy out of you

We were in for three days with ours when he was two wks old. He was on a drip and they did all sorts of tests including a lumbar puncture. He still has a scar from that now!
I don't think i've ever been so worried in my life. Its terrifying isnt it?

FoghornLeghorn · 12/04/2007 16:45

Well our ordeal sounds nothing compared to your powder but yes, it was awful. I was too afraid to leave her while I went to the toilet in case she was sick and choked
