This is my 1st experience of having a child with nappy rash so not too sure what else i can do to help.
DD2(15months) has developed a really nasty burn on her vulva area.
I have been applying Bepanthene cream and sudocrem and she is changed regulary and soaked in the bath everyday(don't use soap very often as she has excema)
What else can i do?

Sudocrem usually works quite well. Whenever my dc have had it I have bathed them more frequently and tried to air the area as much as possible ie keep the nappy off whenever possible. It has usually taken a day to clear up.

I normally got good results by applying a thin layer of metanium with some sudocrem on top.

PelvicfloornomoreChocolate · 08/04/2007 22:08

Have never heard of metanium ,is it an over the counter thing?

Metanium is over the counter - yellow in colour - great stuff!

lucy5 · 08/04/2007 22:10

Metanium is great alo kamilosan [sp]

3easterbunniesandnomore · 08/04/2007 22:11

Metanium is an over the counter one, yes, and it is brill!
Anotthr good one is Camillosan, which is an ointment hence won't dry the skin out!
Sudocrema is, ime not that great, I find it very drying.
Oh, a friend of mine always swore on Drapolene, and her dd had lots of probs in that area...!

KatieMorag · 08/04/2007 22:14

another vote for metanium

PelvicfloornomoreChocolate · 08/04/2007 22:14

Thanks ladies
I will give them a try.
I just feels so sorry for her at the moment ,she is recovering from very bad chickenpox and is covered in scabs, scars and marks and her excema is awful and on top she now has this!

My DD suffered nappy rash and I used drapoline which helped. The GP that I saw at the time also said to put a layer of zinc and castor oil on top of the drapoline and this really did the trick. If it has got infected you may need to get heran antibiotic cream like timodene.

christywhisty · 08/04/2007 23:29

Get it checked out with HV as it could also be thrush. My daughter had it as a baby.

Beauregard · 08/04/2007 23:31

Hadn't thought of that.
Would thrush suddenly come on?
Ahhhhh but she has been on antibiotics recently!

christywhisty · 08/04/2007 23:42

Never sure why my daughter got it, as another time she also had it in her mouth , but son never had thrush at all. I thinks it's quite common though, just google it. Most refences do say antibiotics can cause it.

Beauregard · 08/04/2007 23:47

Thanks will do Christy.

octo · 09/04/2007 13:45

I have bought some natalia bottom balm which looks and smells gorgeous - just need a baby now ....

dionnelorraine · 09/04/2007 13:58

I havnt read whole thread so I may be repeating this....but, my dd suffered really bad with nappy rash when she was teething. I used to mix sudocrem and vaseline in a seperate pot. about half and half. Worked a treat!!!
Good luck!

Beauregard · 13/04/2007 11:59

Metanium hasn't made any difference to it
